Soundstage review/Play by Play/Spoilers

Thus far LB has performed "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" (With the white Strat), "Trouble" (Sounded great to my ears) & just started "Big Love"...

This looks great in the widescreen format and for ya Ledgies who were sitting close to the stage there is PLENTY of audience shots from overhead, And very clear shots at that...

estranged4life 09-08-2005 10:36 PM

Stupid server...

keeps booting me offline...

LB has played "Down on Rodeo", "Peaceeeper" (Which has the backing vocals towards the end is that are from the SYW version since Stevie's voice is heard).

He just played "Red Rover" (The red stage lights set the mood) & he just introduced Stevie and has started on "Never Going Back Again".

estranged4life 09-08-2005 10:39 PM

"Those were very good...

two part harmonies we did"-Lindsey to Stevie after Stevie's lil' impromptu vocal of a classic "Buckingham/Nicks" track...

Ian 09-08-2005 11:01 PM

I recorded it, and watched on my PVR. It was awsome and I *cannot* wait for the new album :D

estranged4life 09-08-2005 11:05 PM

Dumb slow server...

is causing my delay...

Stevie & Linds played "Say Goodbye"...He is now playing "Murrow", I dont know...Maybe he is using "Murrow" as this show's "I'm So Afraid" with the guitar tone he used for the solo.

"Go Your Own Way" sounds rather strange to me in this setting...Maybe its just my ears from hearing it so many times from the SYW tour shows, Who knows

Only 54 minutes...Way to short IMHO!!!

hayley 09-08-2005 11:16 PM

I'm having visions of Lindsey sitting in the editing room going "Who IS that girl bused in from the Special Olympics flapping around because of the Frozen Love bit?"

Yeah.

Hilariously, I did the exact same thing in the privacy of my own room upon realizing they didn't edit that bit out. It was amazing- by far the highlights for me were Trouble, SGCYM, and Down on Rodeo. Fantastic. I can't wait for everyone to see this.

amber 09-09-2005 12:18 AM

That's it? I thought everyone would be fawning all over it! I just learned that it is not going to be shown in this area at all. At least they didn't have it listed at all for these channels on the pbs website. If anyone 'round here hears diff, please tell me. For Christ's sake, he's from Palo Alto, an hour away. Retardo. mucho retardo. Of course I wrote them a letter. Yes, I realize I can buy it, I still think it's retardo though.

estranged4life 09-09-2005 12:18 AM

Yeah...

I saw that being shown as the end credits were rolling on the screen.

May have to purchase that official copy just to see what bonus material is shown.

um....now that's two tragedies of epic proportions. Not in Bay Area, not in LA. That's like....well, you understand. "Hey, lets not show it in their home towns!" they said. Bet it's not on in England, either.

Gee, thanks Brian.

Kelly 09-09-2005 05:26 AM

I saw a brief shot of the Welsh Witch, Patty!

I am shocked there are not more replies to this thread. The Frozen Love bit was adorable and unexpected and I love Lindsey's candid, relaxed smile.

Favorites....Trouble, SGCYM, Murrow and Down on Rodeo. Maybe after more people have seen it, we can discuss DoR? It sounded like it had alot of harmony added in the background to me. It couldnt have sounded like that live, did it? It sounded GREAT! Murrow sounded awesome as well, there was something about the way he was singing, maybe it was more clearly than the album, but it rocked!

WelshWitchPMD 09-09-2005 05:27 AM

OK. I saw it on a very snowy reception at 5 AM this morning! From what I could see, I liked it. I see that they used the 'rule of thirds' when showing Lindsey's face. I agree with those who said 'Murrow" sounded a bit like 'I'm So Afraid". I think that was my least favorite song of the show.
They did leave the 'Frozen Love" clip in and I even think that I can see myself somewhere during that time. :o
I hope that a DVD comes out with the whole show on it.

Oh yeah, it looks as if I am right near Stevie from what I could see. LOL :o

The Ledge was down most of the night that is why there are not too many replies.

DOR sounded as if SN was singing on at least to me. I also made some other observations about the show.

Mari 09-09-2005 05:46 AM

Allright, just a few first questions that come to mind:
- backing band? Who, how many guitarists, backing vocals.. anyone we know already etcetera
- arrangements of the songs? Anything new or completely different? Well, I read a bit about that already. But I want more :D
- best and worst? Over all, was it brilliant, godawful, mediocre.. what?
- What was he wearing? :o

Brett Tuggle, Taku and Neal Haywood were there.

I can't really tell overall about the show because reception was not the best.

LB had on white t-shirt, black leather jacket and black jeans.

Don't do that to me!

But seriously, ahum, I like that, just a small band.
Seems he's been reading these boards perhaps since discontent with the massive backing band of the SYW tour was outed a lot.

Regina 09-09-2005 07:56 AM

Let me see...

In editing, I guess, they did something very funky with the sound of the audience. Perhaps it was drowning out LB's vocals but the only time you heard the applause or screams from the audience was between songs and you SEE the audience going nuts several times during the performance but hear nothing. I found that kind of weird and I actually think--even if it interfered a bit with the vocals, they should have left it in. That's what feeds the performance and that was the natural response so...why take it out?

I loved it but it took me a couple of minutes of getting used to Lindsey in a semi-unplugged version. I really loved the Night of 1000 Guitars sound of the OOTC tour (I didn't see any of them...just through boots) so this was very different.

He looked yummy in his leather. Brett Tuggle was wearing leather, too, and making the weird sounds on Murrow;-) Taku was his usual cutey-pie self and Neal was looking good, too, but I can't give you his fashion report because I didn't really notice. He was sitting on a stool with his guitar most of the time.

They seemed to have cropped out a lot of Lindsey's earlier speeches and I think the performance became "warmer," when they let him make his intros in his own way. No cycles, but you did get the forgiveness speech, the gods (not God-God, but like gods in the clouds looking out at this experiment ;-) speech and the justice-force speech. I've missed those!

Murrow was a bit strange live. I think he pulls some of the guitar work straight from I'm So Afraid on that one but I kind of liked it. It's odd but the recorded version is odd, too. Red Rover was fun (and wasn't that supposed to be like the first time he ever sang it live? it wasn't in the SYW tour yet at that point--because, on that one, you do hear a big cheer from the audience before they cut out the sound). Trouble unplugged was another odd thing but pretty. Oh, he did Down on Rodeo, which had that pretty little voice of his doing nice things toward the end of the song (aren't you glad I'm getting all technical on you?)

I could have actually done without GYOW. I really wanted to hear Save Me a Place but that's what the DVD is for, I guess.

He introduced Stevie as someone he's known since he was 17. She came out and they did Never Going Back Again...then she did the two lines from Frozen Love with lots of smiles going back and forth (they both have SUCH nice smiles which were a bit underused in this hour but that's okay. I know Rock Stars aren't supposed to exercise those facial muscles much when they are on the TV--I watch that INXS show;-) And during Say Goodbye, I had a little emergency I had to take care of and had to keep running back and forth down the hall but when I watched the tape later, it was fabulous.

There was an oriental carpet under his feet, he said he enjoyed working in front of a smaller group of like-minded people (I think that's what he said) and that's all I can remember off the bat.

I want to see the whole thing and I'd really LOVE to see a less edited version of the whole thing with the audience reactions left in, the double takes, etc.

I worked for a PBS station at one time. If I still did, I'd be mighty tempted to track down a big shot and ask him why they only scheduled the show once in NYC--at 1 AM no less. I wonder if they so much as aired a commercial for it. I highly doubt it, somehow.

Same for Buffalo - except I have to wait until October 8th at 1am. I'm sure I will order the DVD anyway, so no big deal I suppose. I just hope Ledgies in other nations get to see this.

Mari 09-09-2005 08:20 AM

Oh I hope I'll see this one day. Regina, you have me drooling! (Not over you but I guess you understand :D)That is one great review, thanks so much :]

Thank God for no guitar army! Sorry, that was my least fave thing about the OOTC tour Centerstage show. I know that's what he wanted, but I want, in the words of Pattie...LB stripped. ;)

Oh I liked the OOTC guitar army. It's the SYW tourband that was a bit too much for me.

Lindsey Jr. 09-09-2005 02:16 PM

It's the SYW tourband that was a bit too much for me.[/QUOTE]

Agreed. When the Mac or LB will tour again, not too many extra musicians please this band or this guy has power enough.

stevierocks87 09-09-2005 02:22 PM

okay, I'll just copy this from my xanga page you show how much I LOVE Lindsey:

Quote:

Well, tonight was been a whirlwind. You see, I was looking forward more than anything to watching Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac, you guys. and you say you know me ) tonight on Soundstage on PBA3O. Well, 11 comes, I turn to the station, and it is just a black screen. I call my mom, a mile down the road and on the same cable system, and Lindsey is strumming away on channel 16. Me: black screen. I want to kill something. So, I make a desperate last ditch decision to rush over there to atleast catch most of it. I so happened to park in the spot right next to the concrete column on the 2nd floor of the parking deck and start to pull out without thinking about anything except getting to Lindsey as fast as I can. do you see where this is going? I start to turn the car left way before I should, and SCREETCH BAM I hit the column. So, the front left on my beautiful Honda now boasts huge black streeks, some huge dents, and a missing light cover (not the headlights- I think they're "running lights" or something?".) so, not the worst that could have happened but a huge bummer none the less

needless to say, not happy about that at all. the show was pretty good, atleast
so....ya. I missed SGCYM, Trouble, and Big Love- I came in during Go Insane. I thought the show was good, but was not expecting it to be so "bare-bones"-they didn't even have a full drum set! Songs like "Peacekeeper" really need that extra punch, so sometimes the "Unplugged" thing was kinda weird...On the other hand, it's always great to hear a song we've all heard 1000 times done in a different way, so in a way I'm glad they did it like they did.

Stevie was wearing BOOTS but also the horrible victorian-granny-button-up thing of the 2003 SYW tour and the big parted hair. she still looks great though and almost smaller than in LIB. They seemed to bring her voic up more prominantly than LIB. It was a WONDERFUL suprise to see the Frozen Love thing! and you KNOW she remembers every word!

ya, GYOW sounded funky, kind of like a "remix". I liked it though. overall, I thought the show was great and will be getting the DVD. Lindsey rocks!

:wavey: adam :wavey:
