THE BIG INTERVIEW WITH LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM, TUESDAY APRIL 28TH APRIL 23, 2015

GRAMMY® WINNING FLEETWOOD MAC ROCKER LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM JOINS DAN RATHER FOR AN ALL-NEW EPISODE OF THE BIG INTERVIEW ON TUESDAY, ARIL 28, AT 8pE

Lindsey Buckingham rocks THE BIG INTERVIEW, as the Grammy winning Fleetwood Mac icon sits down with Dan Rather in an all-new episode on Tuesday, April 28, at 8pE.

Lindsey Buckingham’s passion for music was ignited at a young age by a toy Mickey Mouse guitar, which he would use to play along to his brother’s record collection. Wanting to encourage their son’s talent, Buckingham’s parents bought him a $35 Harmony guitar. By the age of 13, Buckingham had immersed himself in the sounds of his native San Francisco’s burgeoning music scene, finding influences in folk music, psychedelic rock, and even the banjo. By 17, Buckingham had joined the Bay Area band Fritz, and it was here that he and legendary vocalist Stevie Nicks would begin a storied collaboration that would come to define both of their personal and professional legacies.

After leaving Fritz, the duo of Buckingham and Nicks released an album together in 1973, but were subsequently dropped from their record label due to poor sales. It wasn’t until 1974 when things would really begin to take off for the duo, following a chance encounter with Mick Fleetwood at Sound City studio in California. Impressed by Buckinghams’s guitar playing on the duo’s single, “Frozen Heart,” Fleetwood invited Buck and Nicks to join his band, Fleetwood Mac, following the departure of guitarist Bob Welch. Two years later, the band released the blockbuster smash Rumours, propelling them into superstardom and securing their place in Rock N’ Roll history, thanks in large part to the strength of the now-legendary hit track “Go Your Own Way,” which Buckingham wrote. The band’s star would rise even further thanks to albums such as Tusk, Mirage, and Tango In The Night. Feeling burned out from growing tensions and his own desire to not tour, Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac in 1987. Buckingham returned to the band in 1997 after embarking on a fruitful solo venture, and he continues to record and tour with them to this day.

Since entering the music industry in 1968, Buckingham has enjoyed a highly successful career—both as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac—that has spanned almost five decades. During that time, he has released a total of 23 studio albums, received a GRAMMY®, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and an induction into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Although he never took guitar lessons and does not read music, Buckingham is recognized as a legendary guitarist and songwriter, and was named one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists by Rolling Stone Magazine in 2011.

THE BIG INTERVIEW airs every Tuesday at 8pE, only on AXS TV. We’d love to hear your thoughts, too, so share on Facebook and Twitter using #axsTBI.

Josh Groban is a record producer but Lindsey isn't? Funny how they always seem to not recognized that part of his accomplishments whenever he's described. He really is the architect of FM's sound especially since Tusk.

For heaven's sake. And even if this question is just being asked for the casual fan, doesn't the casual fan KNOW ALREADY too? The stories have been told non stop for almost 40 years. Even those people who think that Fleetwood Mac was a specialty McDonald's hamburger still know about the divorces, the drugs, the compartmentalization.

There is NO ONE who does not know.

Can you ever get to a point where audience knowledge is assumed. When Paul McCartney goes on a talk show do they say, "So, um, what do you do for a living?"

Larry King once called Paul George during a 2006 interview. Knowledge can't be assumed.

See, us Paul fans have to deal with this just as much. Do you know how many times I have rolled my eyes through an explanation of how he wrote Yesterday, or the way he and John collaborated on We Can Work it Out, or how he's always inspired but he came CLOSE to it not happening with Drive My Car, or how he and John DID make up before he died and talked about baking bread and....

And Paul does more interviews too. Over a longer period of time.

My sister's a casual fan, but the only reason she knows anything about them is because of me. Prior to me becoming a major fan, she only knew the hits and band members' names. She didn't know that Lindsey and Stevie dated, or even that Lindsey's an American. As much as we know all the details, many still don't.

As for Paul McCartney, we know not all of Kanye's fans know who he is. :D

Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and news veteran Dan Rather should make for an odd couple on “The Big Interview,” which will focus on the rock star’s personal life and esteemed career. 7 p.m. AXS TV

Uh huh. Well look at Brian Williams now. Maybe Dan is not the crazy one.

Of course, I support Brian Williams and I want him back at NBC, despite the fabrications. I'm just saying that I think Dan Rather's reputation has suffered to an unwarranted extent and I did not support his being pushed out.

Well they based the whole last year of touring for the casual fan who they assumed haven't gotten sick of hearing the same songs and setlist that they have performed for the last 40 years, so...
(of course there was the millions of dollars that was at stake too.)

wheart 04-29-2015 07:42 AM

Judging from the comments I think I'll pass on this interview. Did Dan R at least ask about a new FM album? Not that LB would give any sort of direct answer but there's always the off chance...

gssmith 04-29-2015 11:28 AM

I wish he'd do something different with his hair. It makes him look strange. And they played more of Stevie's FWM songs than his. Poor guy so under rated.

jkmaletic 04-29-2015 11:45 AM

Maybe I just haven't seen enough Lindsay-only interviews, but I thought he was very forthcoming in his explanation of Second Hand News.

I like how he explained himself as "esoteric". Yeah, I guess you could say that. Interestingly, you can also say the same for Stevie. They indeed live in a parallel universe sometimes.

Yes, it's not unlike him talking about the DJ criticizing the initial version of GYOW on the radio and Lindsey saying he was going to head right over to the radio station, because he said he was much 'feistier' (fightier) back then than he is now.

he kinda sidestepped that one mostly, just said that he used to have a temper, that it's in the past. that there was lot of frustration for not being able to have closure with stevie yet having to work with her, coming from pent up anger that he had to keep it bottled up and put on his best face with songs / at work, so temper manifested itself in his personal life. that temper is something that comes out when you try to keep stuff bottled up at one side, it's something that manifests itself in a destructive way instead.

his assertion may have been that not only is he now happy and settled, but also that unlike in the past, he has learned how to channel any frustration he may have into something constructive.

so it's all Stevie's fault?? Only half-serious.

sounds like a very oblique way of acknowledging that clearly there's a lot of truth to some of what carol had to say in her book. or do you disagree?

It was a reference to Dan Rather saying some people accosted him and said, "What's the frequency, Kenneth" to him. It was one of the first things that made the public begin to think of Dan Rather as wacky.
