Bob Welch played Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding in 2008, treating the fans to an unexpected cocktail-jazz arrangement of his highest-charting solo effort "Sentimental Lady." He also jammed with Roger Clyne on his other big solo hit "Ebony Eyes," the Fleetwood Mac classic "Oh, Well" (recorded long before he joined the band) and the Jerry Lee Lewis hit "Great Balls of Fire."

In my review of the concert, I wrote that "while Alice's set was the feel-good highlight everyone anticipated, Welch's was the revelation (one that went beyond how impossibly skinny the man remains)."

Looking back on that night in the wake of Thursday's news the Welch had killed himself, Cooper said, "Bob played the 2008 Xmas pudding show with us, and he was great. It's always a shock to me to hear of a fellow rocker leaving our realm in this manner. I guess you never know what might be going on in someone's life. We respect his memory and his music, and we'll miss him."
