That's okay. McVie makes up for his absence with his terrific bass parts on "Remember Me."
From what I've heard/read (maybe even from the Welch Q&A) that John McVie & Dave Walker were just down the road at a pub (where they'd gone in a break in proceedings) and the rest of the band had tired of waiting for them to get back. Hence Welch playing the bass on that track.
