While both albums are lackluster, I just can't digest "Behind The Mask". It's a hard, generic, and off brand pill to swallow. At least "Say You Will" has some fleeting moments of brilliance. "Behind The Mask" is like a bad issue of Soap Opera Digest. I equate the "Behind The Mask" lineup to:
Shelley Hack replacing Kate Jackson on "Charlie's Angels"
Jenilee Harrison replacing Suzanne Somers on "Three's Company"
Coy and Vance Duke replacing Bo and Luke on "The Dukes of Hazzard"
Bekka Bramlett replacing Stevie Nicks in Fleetwood Mac
Gary Cherone replacing Sammy Hagar in Van Halen
Donna Reed as the "new" Miss Ellie on "Dallas"
Sheryl Crow replacing Christine McVie in Fleetwood Mac (WTF?!?)
I'm sorry, but if you try to REPLACE Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, or Stevie Nicks in Fleetwood Mac, you might as well just call it something else and tour as the opening act for REO Speedwagon. It's clear, the only thing that existed behind
that mask was pure mediocrity.
