Yeah, I'd thought the same thing, and it's a good point. It's a close call on this one as to whether it's one of Peter's songs or a more collective effort. From what I've read, Peter did the
Then Play On editing and mix for "Underway", and the mix is quite different from the "raw" version on
Vaudeville Years. Particularly when Peter starts in on the main melody, his guitar is much more prominent relative to Danny's in the
TPO mix than in the original. It would be interesting to know whether this was a truly spontaneous jam, or whether parts of it had been worked out to any extent beforehand.
