The Tea Party has managed to coalesce every disgusting, putrid element of American society today under a single monolothic banner: evangelical Christians, racists, anti-intellectuals, gun owners, homophobes, conservatives, Sarah Palin, etc. As an assorted faction of wacky individual causes, they really had limited ability to sway the course of politics.
