I think Elton wasn't in a good "space" during the time when he recorded it. It was either right before or right after his voice box surgery, which triggered a bunch of lifestyle changes for him. |

...I guess I've softened my stance on it in the ensuing years...but, that's pretty much how I felt when I first listened to it.
