Nobody had to tell her anything. Street Angel, Trouble In Shangri-La, and Say You Will didn’t live up to her commercial expectations. In Your Dreams only reaffirmed that. That’s why she basically phoned it in for 24 Karat Gold. There’s literally no commercial upside for new music as far as she’s concerned. However, she’s still in high demand as a concert act.
Lindsey got the hint that his solo work was mostly for a niche audience in 1993 and stopped having commercial aspirations for it. I also think Lindsey and Christine understood their duet album wasn’t going to be a hit, but were doing it for the intrinsic value of creating something new with Fleetwood Mac.
