Media Release: VJS announces Rick Vito & The Lucky Devils w. special guest Billy Burnette

The Victoria Jazz Society announces Rick Vito & The Lucky Devils w. special guest Billy Burnette January 16th, 2015 at the Upstairs Cabaret.

WireService.ca Media Release (10/29/2014) Victoria, BC - Rick Vito has established himself as an expert blues slide guitarist, and guitarist/vocalist Billy Burnette put the "Billy" in "rockabilly". Vito and Burnette were both members of the supergroup Fleetwood Mac (Vito 1987 to 1991, Burnette 1987 to 1995), bringing a rock and roll boldness to four of their albums. They are reuniting for a blues/rockabilly show that is guaranteed to bring the house down.

In addition to his 9 solo albums, Rick Vito has recorded and performed with artists such as Bob Seger, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, John Mayall, and Boz Scaggs. He also produced the "Rockabilly Filly" Rosie Flores' much heralded album Speed of Sound. Vito continued to collaborate with Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks after leaving Fleetwood Mac, even joining the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band in 2008. Their 2010 album Blues Again! was nominated for the "Best Traditional Blues" Grammy Award. Vito's song "It's 2 A.M." won the W. C. Handy Award (now the Blues Music Award) for the "Blues Song of the Year" in 2001.

Billy Burnette was born into rock and roll, as his father Dorsey Burnette and uncle Johnny Burnette were in The Rock and Roll Trio. This trio made the "rockabilly" name famous by combining the name Billy and his cousin's name Rocky for the 1953 song "Rockabilly Boogie", thus making the term "rockabilly" a household name. At age 13, Burnette was playing guitar on tour in Japan with Brenda Lee, and at age 18, he recorded his first album with Columbia Records. He has gone on to record 15 solo albums and has been inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. In addition to Fleetwood Mac, Billy has written songs for and performed with such hit-makers as Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison ("All I Can Do Is Dream You"), Jerry Lee Lewis, Cher, Faith Hill, Greg Allman, Bob Dylan, Jon Fogerty, Ray Charles and Bonnie Raitt ("Do I Ever Cross Your Mind"), George Strait ("River Of Love"), and Eddy Van Halen.

Rick Vito & The Lucky Devils (Charlie Harrison bass, Rick Reed drums) are returning to Victoria after astounding the audience at this year's Vancouver Island Blues Bash. It was such an exceptional show that the VJS is inviting them back, and this time they are bringing special guest Billy Burnette. The electric reunion of these two former Fleetwood Mac members will be a rockin' good time with a twist of country and blues/rockabilly!
