Exclamation Buckingham/McVie turns 7

Lindsey reminded everyone on twitter today that 7 years ago today they released Buckingham/McVie.

This is what he wrote with some photos:

7 Years ago yesterday my dear friend Christine McVie and I released "Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie". These songs are a reminder of her incredible talent and mementos of our companionship

Its hard to believe its been 7 years. What an exciting time and even more exciting tour. The album is so good. So happy Lindsey remembered the date.

2017 was a good year to be a Fleetwood Mac fan. I'm glad the two finally released their collaboration album and properly toured it.

It was the Perfekt swan song for me. Seriously.

Free at last. Free at last. God Almighty, goat free at last.

Followed by Stevie Nick's Fajita Roundup Crowded Petty House cover band. What an ending to the band of my life...

It really is hard to believe it's been 7 years - so much has happened in those seven years. Within the band and the world in general.

I was lucky enough to see them twice. The early July show in Detroit and the casino gig in Northfield Park, outside of Cleveland. The Detroit show was great, but it was a theatre and the crowd mostly sat in their seats. While it was amazing to see them in such a beautiful theatre, the crowd atmosphere was a little disappointing.

The Northfield Park show was an entirely different experience. I nearly didn't go, I pulled the trigger on a ticket about 3 hours before showtime. It was an extremely small venue and I was literally yards away from both of them. The sound was better, the mix was better, they were both super relaxed and having fun. It was such a treat to see them both that close, on a non-arena sized stage.

What a bizarre chapter though. The entire band did this project with one prominent figure opting out. Those Fleetwood Mac classic west shows scheduled between BuckVie dates. As a long-time fan, I was definitely wondering what the h*ll was going to eventually happen because it was too big of a stretch to think this would all just blow over with the Nicks/Azoff camp. Boy did we find out soon enough.

I applaud the band for seeing the project through to completion. I'm sure there was a fair amount of unspoken awkwardness. If only they could have shown the same kind of backbone a year later.

BuckVie gave me so much joy. I have complaints: Christine’s absence on Lindsey’s songs; his creepy vocals ghosting hers when she assumes lead; and the fact that we only have ten songs…

But these complaints are minor when compared to what we DO have, which is a set of catchy, well-written and performed tunes that show neither of the writers diminished in their ability to make great studio music.

I didn’t see them live—they weren’t playing near me. But I was thrilled they went out on the road for an intimate tour.

I was also glad to see most critics praise the record. They were getting recognized as musicians and writers—no drama, no wardrobe changes, no big speeches….

One of the unforgettable highlights was Hold Me being performed. It had not been performed live since Chris's 1984 solo tour. Performed with Lindsey would be 1982.

Such a rare treat
