Shemekia Copeland "Never Going Back to Memphis"
I was listening to Sirius/XM B.B King's Bluesville channel today when this song pops up. It's from Copeland's brand new album. Please tell me I'm insane that it doesn't resemble a certain song from "PG's Fleetwood Mac" (dog and dustbin album). If there is an old bluesman who's behind Green's version I've yet to hear it.
It's cool that Chris Wood, and John Medeski appear on the album though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNiVA9XX234 Last edited by slipkid; 02-27-2009 at 08:58 AM.. |

Are you talking about "I Loved Another Woman"? The rhythym is similar but that's about it as far as I can hear.
As for a predecessor to "ILAW", no need to go farther than Howlin' Wolf. Check out his "Who's Been Talkin'" - near identical arrangement. Can't find a YouTube clip of Wolf doing the song, but you can get the idea from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c83RHIhnOCk |

I thought the vocal notes and pattern were very similar, that's what tipped me off. Last edited by slipkid; 02-26-2009 at 11:24 PM.. |
