Robert Johnson songbook (who play what)
Hi all, That's my first post on this forum, but it's good to find people that really dig Peter Green' music... I tried to do the "who play what" with the Robert Johnson Songbook album. I think that Peter has done a really great job on this one, the more I listen to it, the more I feel like he has really managed to take the Johnson licks and to do them his very own way ( jazzy and subtle). 1/When You Got A Good Friend Peter plays the dobro part ( intro and the other licks) that is mixed on the left side. Nigel plays the folk rhythm guitar, that's more in the side side. 2/32-20 It feels like Pete's playing the left side folk guitar (mainly the between voice riff), and Nigel the right side Dobro rhythm part (with the riff sometimes). I'm not sure but I think I recognize peter when I hear the chords fills during the verse. It's nice and subtle... 3/Phonograph Blues Pete is only singing on this one, Nigel is playing the lead part. 4/Last Fair Deal Gone Down Again I assume It's Pete playin' the dobro slide and kind of chord riffing on the right side. To me Nigel is playing a more straight rhythm part. 5/Stop Breaking Down Pete's doing a nice job on this one. There's a nice interplay between his harp and his guitar during the instrumental verse. He's playing the dobro licks through the whole tune. 6/Terraplane Blues Nice Dobro part here, Nigel is only playing rhythm, like the Soho sessions version. 7/Walkin' Blues They both play rhythm and slide on this one (they play the same slide riff at a different octave). Nigel has more attack with his right hand, so his accoustic sound is a little bit more aggressive while Pete's touch is softer. Pete do this nice slide substain at the very end of the song. 8/Love In Vain Pete is playng the folk lead guitar on this one. 9/Ramblin' On My Mind Nigel is the mostly playing the rhythm on the left side, pete's on the right side (the dobro part). 10/Stones In My Passway Nigel is doing the intro, the main guitar part and the slide note on each vocal break. Pete is playing Dobro, and the licks on the second part of the verses. 11/Me And The Devil Blues My favourite one... Peter is the left sided dobro. 12/HoneyMoon Blues I think that pete's only singing on this one. 13/KindHearted Woman Blues Pete : intro and dobro licks. Nigel: Folk rhythm 14/I Believe I'll Dust My Broom I'm not sure sure on this one , but again I think it's Pete doing the intro and the right side dobro licks. 15/If I Had Possession Over Judgment Day Like the "soho sessions" version, pete is playing the folk slide part. 16/Sweet Home Chicago Nigel do the guitar on this track, pete's only blowing his harp. I recognize pete's guitar by his attack and his own way of swinging the note around the tempo.. He has a very special dobro touch ( as you can see in the "Hellhound on my trails" Dvd, during the short scene when he performs with Nigel only...). So here it is, "Tell me your feelings, baby I may be right or wrong..." Mickael |
