Talking First drawing assignment.... my little owl

Just thought i'd share some more artwork with everyone This was my first assignment for the semester, we had to pick an animal that represents us as a person.... i chose an owl cause they're loners & nocturnal, they also symbolize magic & darkness.... their flight is silent.

What an awesome drawing! I love how it's all in black and white.

So just explaining how you did this. Your "canvas" is covered with a thick coating of black ink and then you use a tool to "clean away" and expose the white beneath. Have I got that right? It's been ages since I have worked in this medium.

No, actually thats relief printing, or scratchboard (which is a specially coated paper that you scratch into) I did this drawing with just black ink & ink pens on watercolor block (which is watercolor paper but thicker, & stays flat on the pad until you remove it w/ a palette knife) Thanks for asking!

I really, really like it. That is outstanding. I'd have that on my wall, but I have some owl stuff up in my house (that my mom did) anyway. And the symbolism and feeling of owls is very powerful, IMO. I don't want to steal your thunder, but just want to show you one of my faves. (owl on bottom).
Again, very good, me loves it.

P.S. - just noticed the tiny cityscape in the background. Very pleasing. Very nice.
