Heart of Stone (acoustic and vocals)
Since there have been several posts of Gothic Trunk’s remixes of pre-Rumours and Rumours-era songs, I thought I’d post this post-Rumours gem—an acoustic guitar and vocals-only mix of “Heart of Stone.” The results are unbelievably good—

On the chorus, does anyone else notice the straggling vocal that goes LATER(longer) THAN EVERYONE ELSE? Drives me nuts, from a production standpoint. Sure sounds like Stevie. Always has to have the last word. Chhhhaaaaaiiiiinnnnnnnnnnn,yyeeeaaaahhhhh...

Hearing the vocals-only version is really interesting. I really like Billy's vocals on this. They might be his best on a song that isn't his in FM.

It's great to hear this bit of magic. I remember thinking at the time that Heart of Stone was a much better song than Love Shines which occasionally seemed to plod a little, particularly in the pre-chorus when Billy chimed in. The squeaky frets seem to have been toned down on this edit and I was mystified that some people on earlier threads claimed that they couldn't hear Stevie on this track. She's a bit monotonal here and there, but I'm glad she participated on it. I'm an LB fan, but I think he might have actually spoiled this one a little if he had got his hands on it.
