Default Atlantic City: GoS Tour - 10/11/08

Hey guys. Finally decided to get my tickets for the Atlantic City show!

Is anyone else going?

If so, does anyone have any good tips/recommendations on hotels???

I'm going!

AC is a resort town, so there are plenty of nice hotels in the area. There's even one in the building Lindsey is playing in (Trump Taj Mahal). The downside is that since it's a weekend, the prices are pretty high running over $300 a night. The other downside is that aside from the resort hotels and a few higher end chains in the area, the rest of the hotels are pretty shady. The higher end chains run about the same a night as the resorts and I wouldn't recommend anything much cheaper in the immediate area. You may be able to find some affordable rates in the surrounding towns, but I would read online reviews carefully before booking.

I'm excited about this show! Curious how it's going to go, since casinos tend to reserve tickets for high rollers.

I'm going too. But we're not staying on, we're driving back to Newark.

I might have to get rid of my three tickets (seventh row, center section, aisle seats) because my sister has been in the ICU for the last two weeks now and mosy likely will be in no shape to go by then....

if anyone is interested please let me know....(would sell for what I bought them for...face value)

The Sheraton by the convention center has the best rates. Try and book a "Club Floor" Room it's only a couple bucks more but includes access to a lounge with computer, breakfast, and snacks all day long. The rooms are quieter too. I stayed there this summer when I went to a couple Eagles concerts at the Borgata.

Good points.
It's within walking distance of the bus terminal, the boardwalk, and major shopping outlet stores. It's just across the street from the train station (which you don't hear from from the rooms) and all A.C. jitneys and taxis stop there too. If I remember the Taj is on the boardwalk within walking distance but the jitney will take you for $2 each way. The jitneys are free for people disembarking from the trains. It is possible, if you learn the train schedules to ride for free.

Address is Miss America Way.

I wish I were going, but my husband has to work that Saturday.

We always stay @ the Comfort Inn on Kentucky Ave. & walk if the venue is on The Boardwalk. I'm not sure how far away the Taj is in relation to the hotel, but we have walked all the way to House of Blues from this motel. I like this motel because it's cheap, close to the Boardwalk & has a Jacuzzi tub in every room.

Have a good time! And if you get a chance, check out the mall off The Boardwalk. My favorite store is the candy store!

Buckingham's Gift: Guitarist Shows Solo Side at the Taj

Lindsey Buckingham plans to be plugged in this weekend at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort. The Fleetwood Mac guitarist - without his famous bandmates - is touring in support of his new solo album, "Gift of Screws" (Reprise).
Buckingham, the de facto musical leader of the Mac, brings his rock side to the fore with this new release, which also features contributions from fellow band members Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.

"This is probably the most rock 'n' roll album I've ever made," Buckingham says. "It probably sounds like I'm getting ready to break a string here and there."

In addition to discussing the new album, Buckingham talked about the blurred lines between his group and solo work, how his prodigious guitar skills have evolved over the years, and the rumor that Sheryl Crow would join Fleetwood Mac for a 2009 tour. (Quick version: It's not happening.)

Q: With so much material, especially from the Mac, how difficult is it to make a setlist?
A: Obviously there are certain things you need to do because people expect that. We are trying to include some stuff that we've never done that's from past solo albums, and we're just trying to shake it up as much as we can.

Q: Having recorded just five solo albums over the past four decades, do you consider yourself a perfectionist?

A: I am a perfectionist, sure. However, you have to put it in the context of someone who is - except for a period of time when I left in the late '80s just because I couldn't stand the environment anymore - a member of Fleetwood Mac. You have to put that in the context of doing albums, and yet being responsive to the needs of the whole as a group.

Q: Speaking of Fleetwood Mac, can you address the speculation that Sheryl Crow would join the band?

A: When it came to contemplate working next year with Fleetwood Mac, (we) had this idea that bringing someone in like Sheryl Crow would be an intriguing idea. I think Stevie put out the feelers and asked if she would be interested. That's about as far as it got. It was a hypothetical. When Sheryl was doing press for her album, she took it upon herself to announce to the world that she was joining Fleetwood Mac. She had made a choice to announce something which had not even been decided, which was in itself inappropriate. I think that what happened out of that particular episode has all been good. Stevie and I ... have been having some really wonderful conversations about how to approach next year, and how to do it in a manner in which everybody's mantra is about acknowledging the love that we have for each other, and the road we've been down, and to try to keep any individual agendas to a minimum and get out there and rock and have a good time.

Q: After all these years, do you have any clearer idea of where a Lindsey Buckingham song ends and Fleetwood Mac material begins?

A: I think more often than not what defines it as a Fleetwood Mac song is as much dictated by the politics of the band, and what they are receptive to. There are certainly things that seem like they are more suited for what I do on the side, but there's certainly a lot of crossover.

Q: Have you found that you're discovering new things about your (guitar) technique or about the instrument itself?

A: In some ways I feel like I'm probably at the height of my creative game. Whether or not you're reaching people is another matter, but it does feel to me like I keep evolving and growing.
