Okay, I'll get real. Honestly, you are correct, I wasn't being as real as I could have been when expressing that opinion. I'm a bit lazy, sometimes.

I am just suprised when anyone goes so crazy, for so long. The fact that it is Jeremy Spencer makes it even less palatable.

Also, most people I like are good at music. Perhaps I am biased. Perhaps I am ascribing personaity traits to people which don't exist.

Anyway, Mari, you've shown me the error of my opinion, and that, perhaps, I put musicians on too much of an intellectual pedestal.

I am no longer suprised that Jeremy Spencer uniformly rejected all of his kids' creative effort/album because they mentioned not believing in god in one of their lyrics. What else would we expect him to do?? Why, I don't know! But I do know that in my first comment I was not looking at the situation realistically. And I feel sorry for his children growing up in the cult, too. I had no idea.

I guess I take that stuff personal somewhat. My dad went nuts for years in the New Age world and that's one of the reasons we don't talk anymore.
About going crazy like that.. I guess you can get to a point where you can't return from anymore. And people don't 'just' end up in cults, there's something wrong to begin with that they try to heal that way.
Oh well, I know about putting idols on pedestals, it's kind of natural to do that, right.

Given that he was very religious back in the late 60s despite his antics on stage, he must have been a very complex young man - no reason why he should be any less complex now. Or self-contradictory, or difficult, or enigmatic, or whatever you want to call it. How many of us have understood anything that Jeremy has ever done, or can say they know how the guy ticks? So why should this latest thing make any sense to us either? Without the full story from him and his kids, we don't really have much basis for a judgement
