Peter's guitar style...
Thought I’d try and discuss PG’s playing style a bit, or at least attempt to!
I’ve just been thinking about how his style is constantly evolving, perhaps more so than most other guitarists? For instance there’s a significant difference between his Mayall/Early FM style, and his 70’s FM style. Then the early PVK era is different to the early 80’s/Kolors material. And also quite a difference between early SG, mid SG, and later SG work. Then there’s PG’s style now, different yet again. Most other guitarists I know of/like don’t generally seem to have changed/evolved as much as this. It’s possible Pete just gets bored very quickly of playing the same way, and therefore at will just changes style..?! Equally confusing is how his actual fretting technique, looks (and sounds…) quite different from FM day’s to present. Again the guitarists I know of generally play in a similar way as they always have – ie hold the guitar the same, use the same fingering techniques, same slides, bends, vibrato etc etc. And I doubt you can attribute all this to PG’s ‘problems’ either.
