There's a large segment of the vaccine-receiving population that are panicky, self-important idiots, though. This should not get lost in the conversation (especially when there is a shortage where those who should absolutely get the vaccination can't)

Well, any child over the age of 6 months can be vaccinated. It is those under that age who have no protection whatsoever (not even through breastfeeding). Infants that young have very serious, often life-threatening, complications from any kind of respiratory illness.
Most places will not vaccinate someone just because they want to get the H1N1 vaccine. They have to be in one of the priority groups. I stood outside in a line for three hours at a clinic to get mine. They only vaccinated pregnant women, health care workers, children over the age of 5 (for liability reasons), caretakers of children under the age of 6 months and some individuals who had compromised immune systems.
If I didn't have an infant under 6 months, I would not be in any kind of hurry to get it. For those in my age range, this is no different than the regular seasonal flu, IMO.
