Default ‘The Runaways’ movie

http://www.runawaysmovie.com/

Anyone seen it yet? I saw it at a special preview last night, and it’s very good. The film captures the spirit of the early 70’s glam/punk rock scene well. Kristen Stewart is fantastic as Joan Jett. We also get to see Dakota Fanning wearing black suede platform boots Stevie Nicks would kill for!

If this movie is successful (I think it will be) maybe it’ll encourage more rock bio picks – like the one for FM that’s been talked about for the last 2 years. If they can make a movie about a relatively obscure, short-lived band like the Runaways, they can surely make one about FM.

What a FM biopic needs is a well-known director, producer or actors (however you feel about Lindsay Lohan playing Stevie, forget about it. She might have had the clout to get it going before, but she’s been flushing her career down the toilet) willing to take on the project. Or at least one of the band members’ direct participation (I’ve no doubt Mick would sign on). Joan Jett was an executive producer and consultant for the Runaways’ flick. I’m sure that helped in getting the film off the ground.

Still wondering though –whatever happened to the Janis Joplin movie that has been discussed for decades?

I don't know too much about the band, but I think it's kind of crappy that they wrote out Jacqueline Fuchs and Lita Ford. They actually changed the name of Fuch's in the movie. Imagine if they made a Fleetwood Mac movie and decided instead of paying to have John Mc Vie depicted in it, they just would change his name to Ralph Mc Kenzie or something like that.

I read that Lita Ford wanted nothing to do with the project, so her part in the movie was minimized. Same for another member of the band who now leads a ‘respectable’ life as a lawyer.

Cherie Currie (the lead singer and Joan Jett’s former lover) is now a chainsaw artist:

That's really interesting to be able to be that artist using a chainsaw! The name of the website was amusing, as well. It reminded me of the chainsaw holding female villagers on the Resident Evil 4 game, which I always refer to as the 'Chainsaw Chicks'.

Um, the movie was made *because* it was about a relatively obscure, short-lived band? Everyone knows/gets the gist of the Fleetwood Mac story, whether they care about the band or not. Ultimately, this is why a movie about the band is moot.

Considering that an FM biopic would premiere on VH1 Classic, I think it could be right up Lohan's alley.
