When I felt someone watching me, I assumed it was a man, and when I heard them clear their throat, I braced myself for the cat call coming (again, woman alone in the mission). The voice that came out was so high and weak and sincere, "I really like your sandals." Nothing else. I wanted so badly to be able to go back and give them to her.
I remember being in San Francisco... it was the first place I went to in the USA with my mum and stepdad... I was rather saddened and scared by it, because I'm simply not used to seeing so many groups of homeless people around a city.
Anyway, you've reminded me of a time when a homeless man started playing a harmonica (I think) for my mum and David as we walked past him, but David walked on, saying he only had his visa credit card. The man, being good humoured, held his hand to his chin and looking at mum, saying "what did I do wrong?" in a humorous manner. Mum apologised, explaining that we didn't have any cash on us, but thanked him and wished him well. It turned out that, while mum and I didn't have anything, David did have money on him. Honestly, it takes so little from everyone to make so much for one person... I don't understand how people walk past such nice people in need so thoughtlessly.

Fear that they'll spend it to get high?

not to mention that when you live in an urban area, you're accosted dozens of times a day by people who are "in need" but are scary/drunk/high/violent.

I hate that formspring.me exists. If it didn't exist, I wouldn't be tempted to post questions to people who are spamming my Facebook with their Formspring addresses. Here are some of the questions / responses I have typed and deleted today before posting to various people -

Why do you tell everyone you got laid off from your last job when you really got fired for stealing?

Why have you never gone to a psychiatrist? Self-diagnosed Asperger's usually just means "I'm a jerk nobody wants to be around, but I don't think I should have to change."

Why did you refuse to allow your fiance to have a bachelor party at a strip club because it made you insecure, and then you slept with a male stripper at yours?

Whew. JTIS is awesome. This way I can share with you and not them.

Yep, it's 1005 pm as i write this and the sun is just starting to go down. Granted this is the longest day of the year.

But there is some night here. About 6-7 hours from what I can tell. But for me the sucky part is that i want to see some stars out here. I mean really see stars, not like what I se back home. Have a feeling I need to wait till about 1am for a dark sky! NOw that im adjusting to the time, that might be a reasonable task.

I can't imagine what daylight 24 hrs a day is like. Or nightime 24 hours a day either.
