I never thought that this photo was fake. Stevie can do splits, so this pose does not strike me as being unrealistic. She is leaning forward to get herself into the position to be able to do her back leg lift. I looked at the top and the bottom as you suggested, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to see.

It's a groupphoto from their arrival in Amsterdam, mid-April 1977:

They look wasted in all pictures from that day.
