Worst Lyrics – World Turning
The "used to likes" - Monday Morning - still not bad, it's just the one that has slipped the most compared to how much i used to like it Songs that could have been better – Warm Ways – Sounds like Chris singing (albeit beautifully) over muzak & makes me feel like I’m waiting to see the orthodontist Everybody's favorite but not mine – World Turning Much better performed live – Over My Head Overall least favorite – World Turning - Jake |

Worst Lyrics - I think Christine is pretty weak, lyrically, most of the time but this album is close to her worst. Honestly, has anyone ever made sex sound quite so flaccid as in 'Warm Ways'?
The "used to likes" - I still like LB's very high, sweet voice on 'Crystal', and I massively prefer it to his present singing-through-a-mouthful-of-vomit stylee. But I don't really like the song any more. 'Crystalline knowledge' is so naff it could've been written by C. McVie. Songs that could have been better - Most of CM and LB's tracks would have benefited from making Stevie's backing vocals audible? Everybody's favorite but not mine - 'I'm So Afraid'. Awww, diddums. Much better performed live - Well, this would have to be 'Rhiannon', back in the day. I quite like the piano intro of later years, though, too. Overall least favorite - The ghastly 'Sugar Daddy', a song that amply demonstrates why Christine McVie's proper place was always right where she started: filling in a bit of bluesy piano in her boyfriend's pub band. |

Though as much as I hate to admit it he was right about this much: "I massively prefer it to his present singing-through-a-mouthful-of-vomit stylee" |

^^^ OK, OK, I admit that last bit about Christine was harsh. I admit it. But it's not a million miles away from the sort of thing the woman has said about herself from time to time. I mean, does anyone read the Blue Letter Archives at all any more? I just went and had a quick look and found this:
"Let's face it, I'm an adequate amateur at best. At heart, I still like to play the blues more than anything else." C. McVie, interview in "Contemporary Keyboard" (1980) But it was harsh, and as was predicted earlier in the thread, this type of poll does provoke negativity. ButterCookie, you've said the same yourself on the Stevie forum. Loz (female - I know, I have a stupid username) |

I agree with her self-assessment; but it doesn't take into consideration something that has become clear over the years: the style in her conceptions & executions. Imagine a far greater technician of the keyboard -- Roy Bittan of the E Street Band -- writing the electric piano & organ parts for Dreams. The style would have been all wrong.

The bit about her proper place being in a pub band was harsh, as I've conceded. But I really would urge all Ledgies to spend a little time reading the archives on this board, because it's easy to build up an image of someone that is quite at variance with most things they've ever said or done in public. For example, read the first four articles in the Christine section of the Blue Letter Archives and then tell me that that incarnation of her doesn't make you feel just a little bit queasy? She was a feminist's nightmare. So was Stevie, up till at least Tusk, and in many ways still is. |
