Great list!! You are obviously a fan of Bob Welch's contributions to the band. All good stuff.

Such Peter songs as Man of the World or Oh Well or Bob Welch songs such as Angel, Bermuda Triangle, Hypnotized, Silver Heels etc.

I also like Blood On the Floor, Coming Your Way, Purple Dancer, Dragonfly, the list goes on.

Oh and then there is The Derelict.

These are just the favourite songs I can come up with off the top of my head. It is far too hard to pick just one...
You honestly had me old friend, until you got to "Derelict". I like your list up to that point. Keep trying though. You may convert me yet!!

I somehow figured you were!!!!!!

I meant what I said on my other post as well. I'm really going to give Dave an honest listen with his non Fleetwood Mac material. I will report back once I've done so. You have my word on that.

Great list. A fan after my own heart!! I've always loved "Why". The slide work is fantastic, Christine's piano is superb and her vocals are awesome. Definitely one of her best in my book.

I like The Derelict and Did You Ever Love Me? best from the Penguin album. I think with Road Runner Dave Walker was maybe trying to be as un Bo Diddley-like as he could with the song but it didn't do anyhting for me either.

Hmmm, what would appeal to a more Rumours less blues centric person from the earlier line-ups... just get the entire Mystery To Me album if you can, and proceed to Then Play On and Bare Trees... I think that would be a good start.

Favourite Mac tunes from '67-74 would be:

Need Your Love So Bad
Drifting
Love That Burns
Woman of 1000 Years
Future Games
Dust

Could list a load more but that's a decent top 5 off the top of my head.

#1 in heart & mind regardless of artist, is "Oh Well"....favorite song of all-time, ever!!

Regards to Fleetwood Mac, actually, I like EVERYTHING pre-1975 except:

"(I'm A) Roadrunner" on Penguin

and

"When You Say" on Then Play On

Other than those two, it's all great...not a stinker in the bunch. (maybe a case of "Elmore James overload" on the first couple of albums, but each song taken individually, they're well above par.)

Songs that stand out during that era besides "Oh Well":

Green Manalishi
Rattlesnake Shake
Love That Burns
Black Magic Woman
Future Games
Woman Of 1000 Years
Sunny Side Of Heaven
Dissatisfied
Revelation
Remember Me
Why
Hypnotized
Bermuda Triangle
Angel (Welch's)
Heroes Are Hard To Find

Yes, that one doesn't quite work out really does it? It doesn't happen, it sits there like a plank, not one that really gets off the ground as it were. And the version on the Christine Perfect album is the same story. I wonder if he was trying to be all sort of Incredible String Band minstrelishy...

Everyone in this thread is giving lists of songs. The question was, what is your favorite SONG (singular) from that period of the band? This is, of course, an extremely difficult question, but long ago I decided to bestow the title of "my favorite Fleetwood Mac song" to "Why."

So ... "Why" is my answer to this question.

Sadly asking for a favourite song is like asking someone to pick a favourite child...

Why "sadly"? Nothing "sad" about it...more like "unrealistic expectations" of the asking person for people to be able to narrow it down to one song. Sure, it'd be easy if Fleetwood Mac was an "only child", but with a 7 year collection of material (and basically 6 separate songwriters in that time frame), chances of someone having an "only child" (ONE favorite song) would be extremely rare.
