Even though I know the lyrics, I still hear the opening lines of Gold and Braid as
"Oh she said
Some old shadow"

I fell in love with 'Sleeping Angel' immediately but it took my friend Rea to tell me it was 'heavy spells' that Stevie was singing, I just didn't hear that correctly, I thought she was singing 'these love affairs are very scarce for a woman and a man'... "heavy spells" and "very scarce" shouldn't have sounded alike to me, but I blamed it on hearing with Euro-ears.
"Angel" from 'Tusk' was even more of a puzzle a few years earlier. 'Track a ghost through the fog' stumped me for the longest time. I didn't know what she was singing, but sort of settled on 'that we hold" for the first part, and 'through the fog' sounded, I thought and don't know why, like she was singing 'beautiful'.
(charmed hour and a haunted song...that we hold as beautiful")
I was so far off! When I eventually saw a 'Tusk' songbook with the lyrics, I was like, "oh, 'track a ghost through the fog'...I guess that's why the words 'Track a Ghost' are listed on an inside album sleeve with a bunch of other song titles."
For how elaborate the original 'Tusk' vinyl packaging was, the album really should have had the lyrics included!

I only play Vinyl, which I blame partly for me getting Dreams mixed up, dirty grimy records. When I first got Tusk I just turned to the shopkeeper and asked 'Is there reaaaaly any need for all this card?' and he replied 'Well, it's one album that the dust won't be able to get to'

Do you ever find yourselves singing the ad-libbed or demo lyrics when listening to the finished tracks? I'm so used to the live versions of Rhiannon, that I always end up throwing in extra lyrics when I sing along. Or again with Gold and Braid - I prefer the "his eyes, his fantasy" lyrics. Then all the versions of The Dealer...

Honestly, for the first year or so of my fandom, I thought that the majority of Stevie's songs sounded a big slurred mess Especially on Stand Back..

But now I can basically hear every word she says haha

That thing was horrible. Once you opened it, you could never put everything back the way it was. They should warn you to take pictures before you undo the packaging, because it will never be the same again. I love FM memorabilia, but there's just so many sleeves I can deal with for one album!

The enhanced SYW is just as bad. You just open the book and things fall out. I want to throw it against a wall.

I stopped using the Tusk album packaging for years. I just stuffed it under a bed, but then I started thinking as a "collector" rather than as someone who just wanted to hear the doggone record and I began to treat it with more care after that. Michele

I always felt the Tusk album was made for left handed people.

They wasted so much space that could have been filled with lots of photos of the Band.

I hear one or the other (sometimes both) at least once a day. I'm one of the three people who still listens to the radio.
