So here's the thing, if we also eliminate those that got at least 40% (indicated in blue), we will remove 25 songs out of the list. This means we still need to eliminate two songs out to round out the double disc set. For this we have three options:
1. We all give out two songs that we think shouldn't be part of the set, I'll set up a poll and eliminate the top 2 most number of votes 2. Same as #1, but instead of choosing which songs to be eliminated, I'll get all those which have at least 35% of votes and use it as the choices, which are as follows: Bare Trees Bright Fire Revelation Caught in the Rain Just Crazy Love Born Enchanter 3. The list remains as is and we keep all 38 songs, or 19 songs each disc. ---------------------------- For Round 2, the plan is we are going to vote on which songs should be included in the first disc of the set, aka the sort of "basic listening necessities" for this era. For this round, we will choose songs that should be there, as opposed to round 1. Assuming that we keep all 38 songs, the setup will be as follows: Kiln House (1970) Poll #1: Station Man; Hi Ho Silver; Jewel Eyed Judy; Tell Me All the Things You Do; Dragonfly; The Purple Dancer Future Games (1971) Poll #2 Woman of 1000 Years; Morning Rain; Future Games; Sands of Time; Show Me A Smile Bare Trees (1972) Poll #3: Homeward Bound; Sunny Side of Heaven; Bare Trees; Sentimental Lady; Spare Me A Little; Dust Penguin (1973) Poll #4: Remember Me; Bright Fire; Dissatisfied; Revelation; Did You Ever Love Me; Night Watch; Caught in the Rain Mystery to Me (1973) Poll #5: Emerald Eyes; Believe Me; Just Crazy Love; Hypnotized; Keep on Going; Miles Away; Why Heroes are Hard to Find (1974) Poll #6: Heroes are Hard to Find; Angel; Bermuda Triangle; Come a Little Bit Closer; Bad Loser; Prove Your Love; Born Enchanter

Hey, applebucked!
Well, Welch's songs took a hit from Mystery to Me and Heroes albums. I would go with either option #1 or 2. Keep the final set to 36 songs. Those in blue can go on ahead and be eliminated as well. This leaves just 2 songs left to be voted off the set. Welch's songs run kinda long so 18 songs per disc is already pushing it. |

I'd keep the 38 songs as is. Nineteen songs on each cd isn't too much, imo.

Honestly, I'm still torn with what to do with the songs. I want to remove two songs there because they won't fit in one disc otherwise, but at the same time, it's hard deciding which ones to part with (and what happens if a tie happens).
Anyone else with thoughts on the matter?

After a lot of deliberation, I've decided to just leave the 38 songs as is. The first poll will be posted shortly.

I'm actually shocked Dragonfly didn't make 50%, but depending on the results of the other polls, I can either use that to fill the gap (if less than 18 songs made it), or swap it with one song (if we get 18 songs) because I think it should be part of the "basic necessities", and I'm sure a lot would agree.

If I'd remember to get on the Ledge, I would have most definitely voted for Dragonfly.
Sometimes the songs that people talk about so much when push comes to shove, don't win polls like this and others done. |

That depends on the total length of the songs combined of course (doe kounavvel). I was blessed with the gift of being able to calculate and did a bit of adding up, using my Excel file of FM songs.
The first 18 songs (Station man - Remember me) brings us to 79 minutes and 33 seconds, not including the necessary 'spaces' between each song. The remainder (Bright fire - Born enchanter) will take 80 minutes and 57 seconds (again, without the 1-2 seconds of compulsary 'dead air'). The total 'available length' on a CD is just under 80 minutes. So, if we edit out the boring, repetitive part of 'Future games' (which starts at about 6:00), the first CD isn't really a problem. For the second CD, only 'Night watch' is a long song (6:16). 'Caught in the rain' (2:41) and 'Born enchanter' (2:53) are the shortest; the remaining 17 songs are between 3:21 and 4:56. However, only one song has to go but in that case, Dave Walker's contributions to FM will be totally disregarded, i.e. 'The derelict' has to be included. This means that one Christine McVie song AND one Bob Welch tune will have to go. Merry Christmas! GJK PS: 'The purple dancer' obviously cannot be excluded form this double CD (which will never be released, of course). |
