It cut out here for just under an hour. It's kinda funny the degree to which we stop functioning normally when the lights go out for even a short period of time . Two of my lectures were cancelled and all but sheer panic broke loose when people couldn't use their blowdryers or charge their iPods. I recieved 3 phone calls ranging from wanting to know whether there was a terrorist attack, to advising me to stay at home because there would be pile-ups everywhere due to the traffic lights being out. (Hi, it's L.A. People drive like there are no traffic lights even when they're working fine.) It was "breaking news!!1" on every station once power was restored. My goodness... sit outside and read a book, people!

southern californians CANNOT drive in rain- it drives me crazy.

i remember in 1988 when we first moved there from seattle, it was raining and my mom was pulled over for driving at a regular speed... seems the cop thought she should be going 30 on the freeway with everyone else... when the cop saw "seattle" on her washington driver's license, he let her go and said she obviously knew what she was doing.

also the same year, it was so cold, one day snow flurries actually formed and were floating down from the sky... none of it stuck, but in traffic on the 405 people were GETTING OUT of their cars and taking pictures. hello! it's the freaking freeway!!!! stay in your vehicle!!!
