Happy Birthday Christine McVie

July 12, 2013 3:10 PM

What is it that is so appealing with Christine McVie’s naturally smoky low alto voice.
Born Christine Anne Perfect on July 12, 1943, in the small village of Bouth a village in Cumbria, England. Her mother a faith healer, her father concert violinist just perfect combination for a passionate musician and song writer. Christine began playing the piano at the age of four and then found herself seriously studying the instrument at the age of 11, continuing her classical training until she was 15.

Her studies focused on sculpture at an art college in Birmingham for five years, with the goal of becoming an art teacher. However, Stan Webb and Andy Silvester talked her playing in a band called “Sounds Of Blue” which had a few dates booked. About that same time she would often sing with Spencer Davis.

Later in 1968 she reunited with two of the band’s former members, Andy Silvester and Stan Webb, in the British blues band Chicken Shack, playing piano and contributing vocals. The band released two albums, 40 Blue Fingers, Freshly Packed and Ready to Serve in 1968 and O.K. Ken? in 1969, and garnered a Top 20 hit in the U.K. with McVie’s impressive version of Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind.” She left the band in 1969 after meeting Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie, marrying him a year later, just after the release of her first solo album, the self-titled Christine Perfect.

Following the marriage, and now known as Christine McVie, she joined Fleetwood Mac as a pianist and singer and remained a member for the next 25 years, becoming a superstar in 1975 as part of the Lindsey Buckingham/Stevie Nicks version of the band. She and John McVie divorced in 1978, although both continued as members of Fleetwood Mac through the albums Tusk (1979) and Mirage (1982). She recorded and released a second solo album, simply called Christine McVie, in 1984. She married keyboardist Eddy Quintela in 1986.

They would separate four years later in 1990 (and divorce later in the decade), just as the band — now minus Buckingham — released Behind the Mask. Following the tour for that album, McVie announced to the band that she would not longer go on the road, although she continued to work in the studio with them, contributing five songs to 1995’s Time.

A reunion of the Buckingham/Nicks incarnation of the band for 1997’s live The Dance followed, and McVie did the resulting tour with the group before officially retiring from Fleetwood Mac in 1998 after the group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that year. She then lived quietly out of the music limelight until the release of her third solo album, In the Meantime, in 2004 and runs a pub with her husband.

Wait...She and Eddy were separated in 1990?

I hate statements/misunderstandings that make me more curious about these people than I really need to be.

LOL! The writer was thinking: does anybody read all the way to the end? This was a way to check.

Good idea, though she's so private she might not want anyone to know. Explains the ring on her finger in the new photos maybe...

I know you'll never watch it, but I just hope my thought will get to you for YOU are always on my heart and on my mind. You deserve only the best in life, you enchanting Queen.
May you have a wonderful Birthday with your loved ones. Even if I'm still young, your music means everything to me and saved me from depression.
Yes, you saved my life and I'll never stop thanking you for this.
I love you with all my heart!

I could see her being married. No reason that she'd issue a press release about that. Mick or Stevie would tell us she was married before she would these days. I just can't see her running a pub without us knowing, not unless the new hubby already owned that pub. Michele

Didn't she tell Mick she was sober nowadays and that's why she'd be unable to fly, because she was too afraid to do so?

First, Happy Belated Birthday, Christine!

Second of all, some Ledgies need to tell the Ledgies who might be going to the Mick Meet and Greets to ask Mick about this tidbit of information.

The only thing that sounds fishy is why would no news of the pub be published?
