Because he wants to "assess" the damage.

With all due respect, if he did not go, you would flame him as well

Pfft. He's going for the photo opportunity. He really is of no use down there other than to make himself look good.

Exclamation Something to think about folkz...

there is still 2 months left in the Hurricane season for the year 2005 (Oklahoma weather is impacted when a hurricane comes ashore in either Louisiana and/or Texas).

What are the chances of yet another storm coming ashore and finishing the job that Katrina started in regards to New Orleans? I am afraid to actually find out.

I still disagree with you... manpower IS an issue. People waiting to be evacuated are DYING. I've seen pictures of bodies with blankets over them in front of the convention center... people who were waiting to be evacuated. A nurse called CNN from a hospital, BEGGING for help, asking where the help was? New Oreans has fallen into complete anarchy, rescue helicopters are being shot at. We need a massive NG deployment to the area... 10,000 reservists is not enough.

So, if he did not go, you'd be okay with that?

Nurses were crying and begging for help because they were afraid...and they had over 100 neonates that were in critical condition. Without backup generators, which also failed, these babies (and adults) have to be bagged by hand. That's a one-on-one job.....one that you can't do for too long at a time...but they're trying nonetheless. These babies need to be evacuated to another hospital...possibly in Baton Rouge or Texas...and they can't take the chance for the armed idiots firing at guardsmens, volunteers, etc. It's a shame

I agree manpower is an issue, but the manpower is here in the US despite others being in Iraq as well. W belatedly has activated more people to go there. He should have done it on Monday. I am unsure if any Pres. would send in more than that though. But, there are other reservists here that he can activate

Again, my issue with W is though he as usual made a great start, the execution is half assed and inadequate.

You know, silly me, I assumed the troops had been deployed there when "martial law" was declared. Isn't that what that means? And to find out they weren't confounds me.

But, do you realize that on Monday that the worst was just beginning? Let's send tons of people into an unstable area and risk their lives as well. No one knew how well or how soon those levees would fare/break? W delegates...those who have been deligated to may have not performed their duties in a timely manner, and those below them and so on. It's everyone's job!!

True - but if I knew what was coming, I would think the Pres. would. Moreover, I think he would have known it soon thereafter, but instead, we get a relatively huge delay that has cost lives. He gets an F- there.

Exclamation Well..well...well...

just watched the press conference with the lil 3 piggies: Der Bush Sr/Slick Willie Do-Her/And the Shrub.

Shrub doesnt have a clue does he? "Dont purchase gasoline if you dont need it" & "It will take about 3 weeks before things can start returning to normal in regards to gasoline shortages"...Is he dumb or just that clueless?

Man, I have to thank ya Liberal Ledgies now more than ever...I am glad ya talked me into NOT wasting my vote and voting for him (Like I would do that anyway being an Independent and all.)

I am unclear on this. I think the Feds and the state declared martial law - usually it is just the state and the last time the Feds did it was Pearl Harbor. I think there are some NG soldiers there as one was shot. I think the focus is, according to the Pres. and all relevant parties, is rescusing the stranded people before they die. I guess they cannot multi task.
