The story in the Enquirer was an interview with Mel Gibson's mistress from the mid 1980's.
These days, tabloids have to be extremely careful about what they print. If they print falsehoods, they get sued- and lose big time. Now, I'm not saying that tabloids tell the complete truth (there's always a ton of shading and innuendo). However, the core of what the report states cannot be libelous. Notice how Whitney hasn't sued anybody- and after what's been reported about her, you just KNOW she would sue if it weren't true. I'm not surprised that Mel Gibson is an adulturous pig, not one bit. Considering that he's a chauvanistic, prejudicial, righteous, homophobic pig, it's not too hard to slide right into adultery. |

I don’t care if people don’t like the movie…I just can’t stand when people base their opinions off of the hype surrounding it without actually seeing it. Peace out. Rob

Rob (Seriously...some stars choose to ignore the tabloids rather then sue...that's why some sue...and some don't)

WELL!! Did they have egg on THEIR face! They kept goin' on and on about how their movies would flop if they weren't seen as "pistol-packing, lady f**king, fag hating, flag waving, real HE-men" and on and on and on. So's I sez- "You know guys we just can't be friends anymore. I know you hate the sin and love the sinner (me), but being a fag is who I am and your rhetoric really hurts my feelings." So.... with a heavy heart, I wistfully went home- saddened by the loss of two of the best guys I'd ever slept with- OOPS!! I mean- two of the best guys I'd ever hung out with. SORRY!! |

it was badly directed. for example, despite mel's quest for authenticity (e.g. he went to the trouble of filming it in aramaic and latin), he used such cheesy, inappropriate (for this film) techniques as slow motion (as dissention mentioned). or in the end, when mary gazes into the camera, as though to say, "see? you did this, you sinners." come on, mel.
the violence was exaggerated. the bible was not that graphic. in fact, some of mel's touches are not in the bible at all, they seem to have been added for the mere purpose of cramming more violence in the film. and no man could physically--let alone mentally--endure such torture for so long. mel seems to have been trying not so much to invoke pity for christ, but to show the audience how much of a man jesus was. this was so violent that Mel should have called it, "Forget Bill, Kill Jesus." |

I disliked "The Passion" for the reasons I've pointed out. Do with them what you will, I don't have to watch the constant torture in the movie to get a feeling about it. You don't have to watch a porn flick to get a general idea about it. You don't have to watch an actor get fileted for two hours to get the point of that, either. You simply have to be familiar with the backstory. I simply see no purpose in it but to put blame on people and to make religious people feel guilty. I think it would've been pretty impossible for me to have made up my mind about the directing before I saw it. The other aspects, though? To be honest, I had made up my mind. Mel Gibson has proven himself to be a major asshole in the past when it comes to gays and religion, so it's rather hard for someone to put all that aside and be completely unbiased throughout.

And I am officially jealous about your job. I used to review flicks for one of the local papers because I get credit for them in class (just a free paper that I got aligned with a couple of years ago when I was a soc major) but I had to stop for awhile because of classes. I start back up in the last week of July (thankfully I'll miss the new Julia Stiles movie by a few months!!). And Kill Bill 2 looks fab. I totally love Tarantino. I can't wait for the final showdown with Bill.

I remember back when Braveheart came out that the Homosexual communityu was up in arms about the "weak" potrayal of Edward II in the film and the way his father, Edward I, treated him. They bitched that it was "stereotypical homophobia stereotyping" and whatever other nonsense they came up with. What they failed to realize while they were crucifying (had to use it! ) good ole' Mel was that the potrayal of Edward II was one of the more historically accurate representations in the film. Gibson even had a"town hall" style meeting with some homosexua advocacy group leaders to discuss the issue and explain the film. I don't know and don't really care if he's a homophobic person or not...I haven't seen it come across in his movies...but, I guess that's not what I go into one looking for. Rob
