Absolutely. I went through a phase of watching lots of Japanese movies and Kitano definitely came out tops with me.
I loved Zatoichi too. And have you seen Brother? It's such a superb gangster movie.

I love the fact he'll star in something like Battle Royale then turn around and make something as poignant as Kikujuro.

Arrow Faves...

Looks like a bunch of us like a lot of the same movies. Also, there are lots of movies I like, but aren't my faves.

Toy Story (1 and 2, but 1 is my ultimate fave)
Robin Hood: POT
Shawshank Redemption
Dirty Dancing
The Odd Couple
9 to 5
The Breakfast Club
A Christmas Story
Arsenic and Old Lace
A Streetcar Named Desire
Paper Moon
Back to the Future
Son-In-Law (shut up, it's still funny. "Hey, uh, Crotch.." "Crawl!" BWAH! I'm gonna miss Lane Smith. )

Brother is great, he's able to reinvent genres, IMO. Also, his eclectism is really remarkable: he's not gifted only as a director or as an actor but also as a painter, his paintings in Hana-Bi were beautiful.

I just saw her in that episode of Cheers where she plays the kiddie entertainer who is obsessed with Frasier. She is great, and can really sing.

I almost listed Pat & Mike, which I have on video. I bought it originally because Alice Marble has a cameo, and I loved her book.

I forgot about this one. That and The Last Picture Show are Bogdonavich's masterpeices. Plus I love the fact they are shot in black & white.

BTW, I thought we were supposed to explain our picks? That would be helpful to those of us who don't know/haven't seen all these movies, if folks wouldn't mind the extra work.

I'm too lazy to explain so you get links to professionally written plot summary

Oh, I love 'Rebecca'. Judith Anderson as Mrs. Danvers is haunting.

Mm... I didn't want to be bother explaining the movies, but since you say so, I now have an excuse -

- All About Eve - The dialogues, the actors, the carachters, the story. Everything is great in it.
- Arsenic And Old Lace - You've got to love those two aunts.
- Breakfast At Tiffany’s - Holly Golightly is probably my favourite movie carachter.
- Bringing Up Baby
- Gone With The Wind - I've only seen it once... And I don't think I'd need to watch it again (althoug I'm sure I will). Quite unforgetable. From the carachters to the music.
- It’s A Wonderful Life - Such a sweet, light-hearted movie.
- Oscar and Lucinda - Well, I must admit that I'd watch anything that had Ralph Fiennes in it, but I really like this movie, especially the first half of it.
- The Petrified Forest - Great performances by Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis and Leslie Howard... But my favourite carachter has to be Gabrielle's slightly crazy grandfather (Charley Grapewin). I'm not sure why, but I tend to always like the supporting carachters the most.
- The Philadelphia Story - Three of my great actors together (James Stewart, Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant) plus a funny little sister and a cynical photographer. Couldn't be better!
- Psycho
- Rear Window - One of my favourite Hitchcock movies.
- Rebecca
- Roman Holiday - Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck are charming. A sweet story.
- A Streetcar Named Desire - Great performances.
- Victor/ Victoria - Robert Preston and Leslie Ann Warren are extremely funny.

Yup (and she just so happens to be my favorite actress)

I just think that movie is amazing... funny, dramatic, beautifully filmed.
