I think her lyrics are ridiculous. Her early lyrics were better but I can't even listen to the new record. The lyrics are hideous! And it's WAY over produced.

I love the new record. I don't understand how you can call it overproduced in comparison to their previous three albums, though. "beautifulgarbage" and "Version 2.0" were so slick that putting them in water would cause an ecological disaster to rival that of the Exxon Valdez.

I also MUST add Tori Amos' cover of Can't Get You Out of My Head - the way that woman played and sang this song completely changed how I think and feel about it - it's so much darker in a fragile kind of way - Love.

Exclamation The one that comes to mind...

is Great White's version of Led Zep's "Babe (I'm Gonna Leave You)" from the "Stage" release.

Well, many on my list have already been mentioned, though I'm shocked it took 30 posts to get to "Black Magic Woman," but similarly:

Fellin' Alright (Traffic) - Joe Cocker.

I freakin love this song too! Who did it originally?

Have you heard the version that incorporates New Orleans news reports and the song is a candlelight remix - it is so sad

Oh, amen to this one. I totally love her cover of "Helter Skelter" too, she really rocked out on that.

The original was by Roxette... I love this one too, the girl's voice sounds strikingly similar to the original one's.

But no one can touch Marie. That woman has an amazing voice-very suitable for pop music but still very good.

Heart Covers

I love the Stones new version of "Like a Rolling Stone: (Bob Dylan)
- So appropriate, don't ya think?? Only took them 30+ years to cover it

I also really like -

*These days- Greg Allman-(Jackson Browne)
*I need a lover- Pat Benatar- (John "Cougar Mellancamp),
although I love his version better!
*Sympathy for the Devil-10,00 Maniacs (Rolling Stones)
*Sweet Jane- Cowboy Junkies (Lor Reed)
although I love Lou Reed's live version the bestest!!
*Delta Dawn -Bette Midler (Tanya Tucker, i think?)
*Angel from Montgomery -Bonnie Rait (John Prine)

All I can think of right now -
but I am loving the Stones version of "Like A Rolling Stone"-
Gotta love Mick on harmonica

My all time favorite cover is John Lennon's version of Be My Baby. It's other-wordly greatness.

Sisters of Mercy by Sting and the Chieftans (Leonard Cohen--what does everyone have this album of covers? )

Battle of Evermore by The Lovemongers/The Wilson Sisters (Led Zep)

How Soon is Now by Love Spit Love (The Smiths)

Well Did You Evah by Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop (Cole Porter)

And from my favorite party album, Lounge-a-palooza:

This Guy's in Love with You by Fastball (Herb Alpert, I think)
Black Hole Sun by Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme (Soundgarden)
Witchcraft by Edwin Collins
Wichita Lineman by the Texas Tornadoes with Michelle Shocked and Glen Campbell (Glen Campbell) OK, so Glen sings one verse on this; I still consider it a cover.
