Ya know - I think all of this pigeonholing people tend to do is silly. Everyone has many facets to their personalities. It shocks the shiitte out of people when I tell them I used to be a defensive tackle. I never really show that "I will jack you jaw right now" side of me very often. Normally, I am at a table with my posse cracking jokes. So, I think people should be who they want to be and all this judging is for the birds. I mean no one is perfect

I had a roommate who was gay, but didn't want anyone who was not gay to know about it. When I lived with him and we were interviewing potential third roommates, he asked me once if I would be willing to keep my being gay a secret. I told him no, and he actually wound up telling these people that he was bi, even though he'd never been with a woman. He would even try to talk about girls with some of these straight guys. And other things, like sports, which I knew he wasn't into, but he pretended to be so straight guys would think he was a "real man." Or something. It was sooo painful to watch.
Dude, as I have noticed before in some of your anecdotal posts, you have known some pretty f*cked up people.

We had some mostly out gay guys (maybe three) at our high school and most people left him alone, literally. He also was into that whole bad perm hair look in the early 80's - I graduated HS in 85. But, it just was considered so taboo even then. When I was in Vegas in May, I saw all these young guys holding hands and walking in public, which NEVER would have happened when I that age. It really almost made me cry at their courage.

Well, this particular ex-roomie that I'm referring to is the same ex-roomie I've referred to in other posts. But yes, I have known some pretty f*cked up people. Most of them are relatives.

I know - bless your heart darlin - but be a little choosier in the future :laugh

But, if it is any consolation, one of my really good friends hangs out with straight people because he is really into straight guys. He will even go home with straight couple to get to the staight guy. I think he needs professional help LOL

I graduated in '97, and *I* would have been tied to a tree and beaten if I had come out in high school. I'd probably be tied to a tree and beaten if I went back to that town and came out now.

A wee little town in Michigan. Rural, agriculture based economics. There were 53 people in my graduating class, and 12 people in the graduating class of the next town over. Everyone knew what everyone did all the time. Our prom was shared with three other schools. Yeah. Small town life stinks. The only redeeming quality was living on Lake Michigan.

Preach it brotha! Me too! Though I do have a few friends there....we don't really keep in touch, but they do know that I'm gay. I'm just gay 2000 miles away instead of gay and down the street.

I'm much more bitter and cynical about people after that experience.

Oh, that was another thing this guy used to do. He made friends with this straight redneck college boy (a good 15-year age difference between him and my ex-roomie) and used to bring him home and watch straight porn with him in an attempt to seduce him. At one point, the roomie told him he was "bi," and the boy told him he was going to hell. I felt very uncomfortable with some of the people this guy let into the house.

Anyway, one night the boy comes over and he and roomie go into roomie's bedroom. About five minutes later, the boy storms out of the house and I never saw him again. I'm thinking the roommate tried something, and redneck boy didn't take kindly to it.

I'm not totally "masculine" and I'm not totally "effeminate"... I'm just Brian, I guess.
Some people can figure out that I'm gay pretty quickly, while other folks never pick up on it.

My first boyfriend was fairly effeminate. I still remember my neighbor asking me who the girl was that he saw leaving my house early in the morning! (For the record, I told him, "his name is Michael," and he dropped the subject right there.)

I've always preferred guys who, like myself, aren't too much of one or the other, and Joshua's just right on the masculine/effeminate scale.
