I was there from 16-19 and I had a great time for the first couple of years. The first 18 months in particular was crazy. You put a bunch of 16-20 yos together who didn't know each other but are suddenly together a lot and working unsociable hours... oh dear, haha. Also, man.. you work your ass off!

Oh, and I fell off the diet program for today! A friend of mine posted a picture of a homemade pizza, on Facebook, and I had to do it!

About a 10" pie, with alfredo sauce, spinach, red onions, two slices of bacon, jalepenos, and 3 different kinds of cheese. YUMMY!

I did throw away all the crust, that had no toppings on it. Made me feel a little bit better about eating it!

I was there from 19(when I started college) until almost 21. Loved that speedy pace!

I've been trying to find my actual recipe for the Salmon & Prawn Bake but it's disappeared - long ago I think. For years now I've just been making it from memory and I don't even know the weights & measures of anything.

But it's really easy, basically -

Salmon fillets (cut into largish chunks) and any kind of prawns you want in a shallow(ish) oven dish.

Make a basic cheese sauce (I like it with a really mature cheddar with plenty of cracked black pepper) and pour over the fish.

Part cook some potatoes and then slice them and arrange over the fish/sauce.

Sprinkle with grated cheese and dill.

Bake in oven at 200 for around 35-40 minutes.

Salmon and prawns should be perfect and potatoes nice and crisp on top.

Although, Al, please note - the Lochmuir Salmon and Prawn Bake from Marks & Spencer is almost identical to my recipe. I get this sometimes when I can't be bothered to cook and it tastes just like mine. And can't go wrong with this one - especially if you have guests, I swear they'd never know it wasn't homemade!

Craving some hearty winter "Mom" cooking.....

Stuffed cabbage rolls. Just turned the oven off, and I'm going to let them "fester" (lol) for an hour or so.... Can't wait. They smell sooo good!

Ahhh ok, so it seems kind of like a fish pie? I can do that no bother! Sounds lovely!

It's Sausages in a Yorkshire Pudding.

Though to be fair, that doesn't sound any more family friendly lol.

I'm often amazed at the differences in American and British culture, and diet. I would like to assume that we're more similar than we are....

Although I've heard of Yorkshire pudding my whole life, I guess I was just imagining that it was actually pudding.

Why do they call it pudding?

Because in English culture the term "Pudding" doesn't mean a dessert dish. It describes a savoury dish, like Steak and Kidney pudding, or blood pudding.

Yup. Homer: You make a basic batter mixture and pour it into a dish and place the sausages into it. You then back it so that the batter rises up over the top of the sausages (although they are still exposed at the top of the dish). It's so good. You should add soda water and/or a little beer to the batter mix to make it extra light.

Haha! I've been trying to explain (in vain) to my friends exactly what biscuits, as in biscuits and gravy, are! We really don't have an equivalent here. The closest would be a scone but that's not really right at all.

True, although we do have sweet puddings too sometimes.
