I don't think it's at all disingenuous to say "size doesn't matter." For many men and women, it really doesn't.
Not that it's anyone's business, but my second boyfriend was "below average" and his size wasn't even the slightest detraction from a very fun and fulfilling sex life with him.

Taking into consideration the proportions of various parts of the inner anatomy, one's partner doesn't have to be exceedingly big to be satisfying.
So I still think certain sizes are more fun for Show & Tell.

Smaller will usually leave something to be desired. And, yeah, that desire can be fulfilled by other things- like skill, for instance- or deep love/lust. Average is fine. However, "bigger" always adds a little sumpin' sumpin' to the mix.

Luckily, anyone I've had who's uh...a little smaller...tended to be wildly compensatory in other various ways. Except for that one guy. So, it usually works out ok.
