How many Beatles does it take to change a light bulb ?

REVOLVER: JUST WHAT is it about The Beatles and the low-level feuds that are still being played out more than 40 years since they legally dissolved the unit? Paul McCartney gets married on what would have been John Lennon’s 71st birthday. Meanwhile Yoko Ono (who wasn’t invited – what a surprise) pushes out a press release on the same day as the McCartney nuptials imploring us all “to take a moment to imagine a nourished and abundant world, where the world will live as one”, at precisely 1 pm on November 1st.

Masterworks’ Lennon “Fantasy” Comes True

John Lennon famously rediscovered his muse in Bermuda after sailing to the island in 1980 — and now the Masterworks Museum plans to mark the former Beatle’s creative renaissance with a major commemoration of his local sojourn.Mr. Lennon wrote or compeleted all of the songs included on his albums “Double Fantasy” — which took its title from a freesia he saw at the Botanical Gardens — and the posthumously released “Milk & Honey” during a whirlwind burst of activity in Bermuda.

Yoko Ono launches Globe of Goodwill in Iceland

The Icelandic Benefit Society of Children with Disabilities launched its 9th Globe of Goodwill yesterday morning. The Globe of Goodwill 2011 is by Yoko Ono and called DRAW YOUR OWN MAP. The event took place at the Reykjavik Art Museum in Iceland and drew a big crowd.Yoko Ono presented the Globe and talked about the importance of world peace and her hopes for the future. She encouraged the audience to do what they can to change the world for the better and pointed out how powerful wishes are and that all the little deeds count. The Globe of Goodwill is a beautiful work of art and a delightful collector’s piece, but its contents give it its true value – love and friendship. The Globe is handmade and every edition is limited. No two Globes are exactly the same but each of them is beautiful in its own way. All proceeds of sales are donated to work for the benefit of children and other young people with disabilities. The name of The Globe is therefore symbolic of that which it represents.

Beatlemania set to hit Newcastle West with first ever ‘Beatlesfest’

IT MIGHT not have an Abbey Road or a Penny Lane, and there isn’t a Maharishi for miles. But for the reams of Beatles fans who will be descending on Newcastle West this weekend, it won’t matter a bit. This Saturday and Sunday Cleary’s Bar on South Quay will be transformed into a shrine to John, Paul, Ringo and George for the first ever ‘Beatlesfest’.From a Beatles tribute act to Beatles-themed cocktails, band memorabilia and more retro fashion than you can shake a pair of go-go boots at, the organisers believe that Beatlesfest will capture a little piece of the 1960s.

Wonderwall Music is Out of Print, but You can Get the Film on Netflix Still!

If you want it, here it is, you can get it (Wonderwall) on Netflix. Wonderwall was the first Apple Record, but it's out of print now. That's the first Apple, not the Second Banana. Good progeny, I might point out. I-Phone 4-S out today with the same level of enthusiasm we saw formerly, such as when The White Album hit the record hops of America (November of 1968) The restored edition of Wonderwall (on Rhino Entertainment) was reissued in 1998 by its original director, Joe Massot. George Harrison, the original creator of the soundtrack, dug back through the old master tapes, and found a lost track. This is a marvelous pop song, In the First Place (which George produced, played, and sang on) by the Remo Four, which subsequently replaced an Indian track used on the opening credit.

Cibo Matto: Reunited And It Tastes So Good

After a 10-year hiatus, NYC’s delicious downtown duo Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda take Japan Society’s stage for the first time ever as the iconic band Cibo Matto on October 20. "Japan Society has long been an important bridge between Japanese culture and the American audience,” the twosome told us. “We are very excited to play here". Their style has been described as sharp, whimsical, and irreverent, with lyrics that buoy a vibrant spectrum of sounds influenced by hip-hop, trip-hop, jazz, rock, pop and African and Brazilian beats.

CIBO MATTO and YU SAKAI: J-Music Ride takes place Thursday, October 20 at 8:00 pm. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and there is a cash bar open before and after the show, and during intermission. Tickets are $25/$20 Japan Society members and may be purchased by calling the Japan Society box office at 212-715-1258, visiting www.japansociety.org, or in person at the Japan Society box office.

A Traditonal in Our Family

I did not know what to expect from tonight’s lineup. Essentially it was Plastic Ono Band and various sub-voltrons thereof. I was afraid the gig would be hermetic and insular. People playing for their friends. This could not have been further from the truth. This was an incredibly welcoming show. It was like the audience were in the Plastic Ono Band’s living room, and the members of the household were taking turns playing songs.

BOOKS -- Emerson prof, Concord resident writes book on John Lennon

Tim Riley describes himself as a devoted Beatles fan who the band first won over when, as a 10-year-old, he saw the film, “Let It Be.”The film is a documentary about the band rehearsing and recording songs for what would be the Beatles’ final album, “Let It Be,” released in 1970.Riley, 51, who wrote a Beatles biography, “Tell My Why,” published in 1988, has new book that attempts to sort out Beatles founding member John Lennon’s complex personal and professional life.In “Lennon: The Man, The Myth, The Music – The Definitive Life,” published by Hyperion, he attempts to sort out perceptions of him among his American and British admirers – whom Riley said see the Lennon story arc quite differently.

The Morrison Hotel Gallery, by now a destination point for visitors to New York City’s SoHo neighborhoods, marked its tenth anniversary with a gala concert and madcap party on Thursday night.Fittingly, the “rock stars” in attendance at the Cutting Room in Manhattan were actually many noted rock’n'roll photographers, including the likes of Henry Diltz (who shot the cover for the first Crosby Stills and Nash album), Ken Regan (Bob Dylan’s favorite photographer for about three decades) and Bob Gruen (who took iconic pictures of John Lennon during his New York City years). Julian Lennon also attended the celebration .

Stolen Sir Peter Blake statue replaced with cheap copy

Artist Sir Peter Blake's only public sculpture is to be replaced with a replica after the original was targeted by metal thieves. Bronze figures and shapes were stolen from his Life Is A Circus statue on Blackpool seafront in August. He has agreed to let Blackpool Council install a replacement, which is likely to be made from metal-coated concrete.
Sir Peter told BBC News he did not mind what material his work was made from as long as "it looks about the same". The artist, best-known for designing The Beatles' Sgt Pepper album cover, was speaking as he was unveiled as the patron of the John Moores Painting Prize, which is held in Liverpool every two years.

Fans pop in with souvenirs that could rock your world

Hidden at the back of a cupboard, or safely stored in the loft, many of us have the odd LP or concert programme we have looked at over the years and wondered if it’s valuable.Armed with treasured memorabilia, music fans packed themselves into the city’s Hard Rock Cafe yesterday to have their questions answered – and some were in for a surprise. Signed Beatles programmes, posters for the first ever Police gig and an old photograph of Ronnie Biggs on a Brazilian beach were among the items valued in the George Street restaurant by expert auctioneers from Bonhams.

A Signed Beatles programme worth £6,000, signed drawings of the Rolling Stones, a waistcoat thrown from the stage by Prince and models of Lada Gaga and Rhianna made from champagne corks were among the star items at an “antiques rockshow” in Edinburgh. Concert tickets, music sheets, signed photographs and album artwork were brought along to the Hard Rock Cafe on George Street for an expert from auction house Bonhams to examine.Fans were allowed to bring three items of memorabilia to the event for a free evaluation.

Within him without him - not so quiet life of George
Beatle George Harrison died 10 years ago but his story lives on.

'Who he is and was, will live or it won't.''As Olivia Harrison makes clear, in keeping with the sanguine philosophy of life she shared with her husband, the former Beatles guitarist George Harrison, she is not hung up on the idea of nurturing a legacy. Nor does she define herself by the role she's held for 33 years - wife of one of the most famous men in popular music - even if for most of us any interaction we have with her is always in that context.''I don't have a problem with that. It's not my problem,'' she says calmly. ''He was my friend and my husband and there is an association there, a bond there, that's there for all time; you can't change history. But I think I am enough of an individual, within my own self, to feel like an individual. I don't feel like I am him.'

Paul McCartney Needs to Gracefully Retire

I am probably the world’s biggest Beatles fan. I have loved the group since I was a child and could probably recite the lyrics of every one of their 200-plus original songs.
I will not bother detailing what made the Fab Four so extraordinarily brilliant musically or so monumentally important to global culture (all that has been examined exhaustively by thousands of others). What I am now focusing on is one James Paul McCartney, or, "Sir Paul" as he is now affectionately known.

The ultimate missed opportunity: Letter from Paul McCartney inviting drummer to audition for The Beatles

When it comes to missed opportunities, this must rank as one of the biggest of all time. A letter has been uncovered that invited a drummer to audition for The Beatles – just before a tour to Hamburg that would help propel them to world-wide fame.It was hand-written by Paul McCartney when he was just 18 in response to an anonymous drummer advertising his services in August 1960. Tragically for him, and for reasons unknown, he never got the job.

One of John Lennon's teeth is expected to make £10,000 when it is auctioned next month.

The tooth was given to the former Beatles' house keeper Dot Jarlett when she worked for him at Kenwood mansion in Surrey in the late 1960s.He told her to give it her daughter "as a souvenir" after he had pulled it out in the kitchen of the Weybridge property. The tooth will be auctioned in Stockport on 5 November.Dot's son Barry Jarlett said: "He was in the kitchen and he had this tooth which he had wrapped in a piece of paper."He said: 'Dot will you dispose of this' and then he said: 'Or, as your daughter's a Beatles fan, you can give to her as a souvenir'.

John Lennon’s sister Julia Baird shares joy at opening of ‘Elvis and Us' -photos

Liverpool, England - ELVIS has entered the building...of the Beatles. A new exhibition opened October 5 at the Beatles Story Museum in Liverpool called Elvis and Us, highlighting the legendary influence that the Beatles and Elvis Presley had on each other. Julia Baird, John Lennon’s sister and devotee of her brother's history (besides authoring books about him, she’s on the Board of Directors for the Cavern Club and very involved with the Beatles Story exhibits), attended the festivities of opening night on October 4th at the museum with great excitement, and she wrote me to describe the event. Traveling a great distance for this gala night was no issue for her, as she has great memories of dancing to Elvis records with her mum Julia, and her then-young brother John in their living room. Their cat’s name was even Elvis.

Andrew Knott was scarcely into his teens when the actor, 32 next month, appeared as Dickon in the 1993 screen retelling of The Secret Garden, starring Maggie Smith. Nearly two decades later, the amiable actor has had two daughters, gone to Broadway with Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, and is now playing John Lennon under David Leveaux’s direction in Backbeat, the West End stage adaptation of the 1994 Iain Softley film, at the Duke of York’s Theatre.
