Sep. 3, 2005 - Amid the unfolding disaster left by Hurricane Katrina, Colorado State University researchers said Friday they expect more storms over the next two months.

"The very active season we have seen to this point is far from over," researcher Philip Klotzbach said. "We expect that by the time the 2005 hurricane season is over, we will witness seasonal tropical cyclone activity at near-record levels."

The school's hurricane forecast team of William Gray and Klotzbach said there is a 43 percent chance an intense hurricane will hit the U.S. coast in September and a 15 percent chance in October. The long-term average is 27 percent in September and 6 percent in October.

The forecasters predicted five named storms four of them hurricanes and two of those major for September, traditionally the most active month for hurricanes. The team predicted three named storms, two hurricanes and one major hurricane in October.

I was expecting this would be a record breaking season! And I live in NC, one of the 3 states hit the most by Hurricanes!

Doesn't sound like he's lying. But regardless of that fact - and even without it - It's a travesty of epic proportions.
All the news here has been focusing for each news segment on the racial aspect, with some learned commentator. To my mind, there better be a reckoning of epic proportions - This better open everyone's eyes....

Did he? I didn't see. From the description, here, I just thought he was showing his emotions about it...honestly - can this situation even be sensationalized???
It's the most sensational situation I've ever seen in this country....

Yes - are you watching your news? It's a racial issue in at least two ways - one way is that anyone could see very well exactly who would be most affected by the hurricane (poor AFA people, 2/3 of the pop of NO, unable to evacuate) , and the response was slow and inadequate.

Second, our societal and political system that found so many people in poverty, people of one race, unable to afford evacuation, to be victimized by this catastrophe.
Racism and classism together is alive, make no mistake. If you don't see that, you are blind.

Trust me... he was completely over the top!

He was harassing a poor 95 year old woman, kept telling the woman's daughter to get out of the way so the camera could see her. Then he was walking around in a circle saying the place was going to explode (with violence) tonight.

I refuse to believe that this has anything to do with the race of the people affected by this tragedy. If the majority of the people trapped were white do you honestly feel that the results would have been different?

Even if you think the results wouldn't have been different, You have to question a political system where an entire population of one race that has historically been descriminated against, slaves in fact, thought of as less than human in fact, are STILL, AFTER A HUNDRED YEARS, the poorest segment of the population, and therefore the ones that couldn't get out. It's not an accident, it's not random, it is institutionalized racism.

gosh, this has all been so mind-blowing, i am sick about all of this, i can't stop watching the news but doing that is more disturbing, the bodies, the babies, the helpless, hungry, tired, scared, the animals, i mean the list goes on & my heart is breaking~ bush is a DEVIL, when i saw his idiotic a$$ on the news speaking to america w/ that smirk on his face, i thought i was gonna throw-up, literally~ i see nothing funny in this~oh yeah he says help is on the way~ god bless those who have come in, the "people" of america, not the gov't~ i know soldiers were deployed from the airbase less than a mile from me, last nite at 8 pm~ did anyone catch the concert for hurricane relief? who was the guy w/ mike myers? the one who said the gov't didn't come help faster becuz so many of the people were black, then he said "bush hates black people", mike myers looked stunned, but like he saw the truth in it~ i just pray for these people everynite, i can't stop thinking of how absolutely devestating this must be for those poor souls, & i know no matter how hard i try, i could never imagine the magnitude of pain these people must be feeling, & the fear~ i thought harry connick jr was so awesome going right in & trying to get water & help to people~ i wish for the poor people that are going thru this & the poor souls who have went on to a better place that their voices are heard, that more lives will be saved, that some salvation will come~ i will never forget this for the rest of my life & have been touched deeply by the images on t.v.~ god bless all the people affected & you will be in my prayers~
