Paul McCartney to Receive Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Nearly 20 Years After Being Chosen

Although first nominated in 1993, the Musicares Person of the Year honoree is the only Beatle without a star on the famous boulevard. It may be hard to believe, but Sir*Paul McCartney, one of two surviving members of The Beatles and arguably the game-changing foursome's most successful solo graduate, is the only Beatle who doesn’t have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Stars shining for Macca tribute

Paul McCartney may not need a little help from friends to get by these days - but he’s going to get plenty of it anyway. The lineup for the Grammy-week tribute concert to the former Beatle has just been announced, and includes everyone from jazz legends and hard-rock heroes to pop divas.Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Tony Bennett and Alicia Keys are among the performers who will celebrate the 69-year-old McCartney when he’s honoured as MusiCares Person of the Year in Los Angeles in February.

Paul McCartney's Kisses on the Bottom: Jamie Cullum's review

Paul McCartney's new album, Kisses on the Bottom, which you can listen to here, sees him turning his hand to jazz-age standards. And the result, writes Jamie Cullum, is a triumph
The Beatles always had a soft spot for the era of songwriting that came before they invented the modern rock band. It's nice of them really, considering that by the 70s the genre they helped define had made dinosaurs of the likes of Frank Sinatra (who later sang the Beatles' Something and Yesterday). Among the many things that made them unique, the ghosts of Cole Porter, Fats Waller and Harold Arlen helped give the Beatles the tools to experiment with the kind of structure and melody that gave birth to some of their greatest songs.

Lennon's other artistry on display in Hyde Park

John Lennon left an indelible mark on the music world, first as one of the "Beatles," then as a solo artist before his death in 1980 after being shot by Mark David Chapman in New York City. The iconic singer also had a strong passion for art, but he found it difficult to be taken seriously by the art world."He was looking for galleries in New York and Canada (to exhibit his artwork)," says Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. "It was very frustrating because we couldn't find one."

Ringo Starr Denies Rivalry Between Him And Ex-Bandmate Paul McCartney

Ex-Beatles legend Ringo Starr has denied that there is a rivalry between him and ex-bandmate Sir Paul McCartney – despite the pair both releasing new albums within the same week.Starr’s 16th studio album ‘Ringo 2012’ came out two days ago, with the drummer claiming that he “has no plans to retire” and would ‘play as long as he could hold the sticks’. McCartney’s new record ‘Kisses on the Bottom’ will be out from Monday – exactly a week after Ringo’s hit shelves. But, in an interview with Spinner, Starr claimed the two were the best of friends – and there was no rivalry.

Watch Conan Cover Buck Owens' "Act Naturally" With Ringo Starr

Conan O'Brien's main guest last night was Beatle Ringo Starr, and he totally geeked out during the interview. Watch those down below. It reminds me of when Conan was first starting and he was so awkward around his guests. But that's not all: Conan joined Ringo's band for a cover of Buck Owens' "Act Naturally" that features Conan smiling so hard his head might fall off. My favorite part? The fact that Conan is like four feet taller than Ringo. Just the best imagery here

Meet the Beatles You Thought You Knew

Musician, composer and producer Scott Freiman takes us inside Abbey Road's Studio Two with his "Deconstructing Sgt. Pepper" at the Raven. Everybody knows about the Beatles, right? Four guys, Liverpool, took the world by storm in the 1960s. Eight years, 13 albums, three movies, billion-dollar song earnings, countless books, documentaries as well as spin-off and tribute bands from the Plastic Ono Band to Wings to, well, Sonoma County's own Sun Kings.Even though they broke up in 1970, it's almost impossible to have missed the impact of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Still, admit it, you've been wondering what the program "Deconstructing Sgt. Pepper" is all about, the one coming to the Raven Theater next Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Former Beatle Ringo Starr on his new album

Ringo Starr walks into the hotel suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel carrying a brown paper bag. It's his sack lunch, and he's packed it himself. He's also driven himself to the hotel and arrived alone -- no entourage, no bodyguard, no assistant, no fuss. It's fitting that CNN's interview with the iconic music star is taking place at an iconic hotel, which is like a second home to the former Beatle. This is where the Fab Four stayed when they first came to Hollywood in 1964, no doubt trailed by dozens of screaming girls and photographers as they ushered in the British Invasion.

Beatles ballet: Eugene company brings to life 19 songs by the Fab Four

CORVALLIS - Over the years, choreographer Toni Pimble’s taken ballet in countless innovative and interesting directions, from jive, jazz and the blues to silk and steel, and even past our planet entirely, to the outer reaches of post-psychedelic album rock. Her most recent undertaking, however, is positively Fab, marrying interpretive dance to the equally innovative and interesting works of The Beatles.

This Saturday February 4th 2012 was 4 years since this song was transmitted into space.

NASA
January 1, 2008
For the first time ever, NASA beamed a song -- The Beatles' "Across the Universe" -- directly into deep space at 7 p.m. EST on Feb. 4.

The transmission over NASA's Deep Space Network commemorated the 40th anniversary of the day The Beatles recorded the song, as well as the 50th anniversary of NASA's founding and the group's beginnings. Two other anniversaries also are being honored: The launch 50 years ago this week of Explorer 1, the first U.S. satellite, and the founding 45 years ago of the Deep Space Network, an international network of antennas that supports missions to explore the universe. The transmission was aimed at the North Star, Polaris, which is located 431 light years away from Earth. The song will travel across the universe at a speed of 186,000 miles per second. Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney expressed excitement that the tune, which was principally written by fellow Beatle John Lennon, was Amazing! Well done, NASA! Send my love to the aliens."Geldzahler, the network's program executive at NASA Headquarters, Washington. "What a joy, especially considering that 'Across the Universe' is my personal favorite Beatles song."

James McCartney impresses at NYC club debut

The face was awfully familiar. The main attraction at the tiny Rockwood Music Hall in New York on Wednesday night had the same small, hooked nose, slight pout and inquisitive eyes we’ve all seen on albums and magazine covers. If James McCartney sat next to you on a train, there’s a good chance you’d do a double-take, convinced you’d stepped into a time machine.

“MAGICAL MYSTERY LIFE” – JOHN LENNON Pop-Fusion ART

If being an egomaniac means I believe in what I do and in my art or music, then in that respect you can call me that… I believe in what I do, and I’ll say it.”
- John Lennon

My first Art piece of 2012 is for Blunt Graffix’s “DEAD ROCKSTARS Group Show”. I’ve contributed a John Lennon work entitled- “MAGICAL MYSTERY LIFE” -that pays homage to the man himself, and the psychedelic visual style that defined his generation.always loved John’s music, and his incredible talent was tragically cut short at the height of his creative powers. This piece re-imagines a new album, and a new John – combining his youth with his later years…examining what might have been… sometime down the (Abbey) road.

Yoko Ono adds song to Occupy Wall Street album, says Lennon sends movement smile

This spring, a compilation album inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement called "Occupy This Album" that will feature music by a wide variety of artists will be released. A short list of the artists featured include Crosby and Nash, Chroma, Jackson Browne, Tao Rodriguez Seeker (Pete's grandson), Arlo Guthrie and family, Third Eye Blind, Toots and the Maytals, Lloyd Cole and Loudon Wainwright III. Also on the album will be Yoko Ono, who has expressed her support of the movement several times in her weekly Twitter posts. Though no details are available yet about Ono's song, Jason Samel, president of Music for Occupy and executive producer of "Occupy This Album," told us in a phone interview that he'd wanted to include her. She was finally brought in to the album by Richard Barone of the Bongos, who's also on the album and knows her.

The Goastt - nothing dead about these two

Ok, so its a little clichéd - son of a rock star and his undeniably gorgeous girlfriend hook up to create beautiful, folky rock music and spend their time gigging and posing for fashion magazines together in a variety of OTT clinches. The Goastt, (The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger) was formed in 2008 by John Lennon's son, Sean and his model girlfriend, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, and they are apparently living the rock and roll dream. But look a little deeper and their music is actually very good, so expect to hear more from The Goastt in time and for all the right reasons too.

Previously unseen photos of The Beatles go on display

One of Britain’s best known photographers has rediscovered some historic shots of The Beatles in action – and after an exhibition in Kent, they will be on sale for around £2,000 each. The series of five newly discovered photographs of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison were taken a staggering 48 years ago by Faversham’s John Farrier, who is due to photograph US president Barack Obama soon.He was raking through old negatives of AGFA film and was stunned at what he’d found. The pictures were taken at the Odeon Cinema in Lewisham during a live concert in December, 1963. They were developed with the help of some modern day imaging technology and readied for display. All five 20ins x 16ins Gelatin Silver black and white photographs will be on show for three weeks only at the Lilford Gallery, Palace Street, Canterbury, from February 11-March 3.

The Beatles experience at the Academy of Music delights all generations

The latest fare at the Academy of Music is the return of Rain: The Beatles Experience, now in a touring version though it’s been running on Broadway since 2010.It’s a night filed with Beatle-mania. On side screen, early arrivals were treated to numerous trivia facts about the famed British group. It’s a show minus any lip-singing as all four of the performers vocalize. There are also videos on the side screen of trivia of the Beatles, and the quartet on stage in different types of clothing as the show develops. They go from matching Edwardian suits to those candy colored Sgt. Pepper jackets.

The music of the Beatles is something that, no matter whom you are or what you are into, everyone knows and can appreciate. They are one of the few things on this planet that is truly universal. So imagine stepping into the shoes of one of these icons to play their music and pay tribute to what they accomplished. This is the situation Steve Landes finds himself in every night as he portrays John Lennon in the Broadway smash Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles. The show returns to Philadelphia from Jan. 31st to Feb. 5th at the Academy of Music and, since Steve is a local guy (from Lansdale) he agreed to answer a few questions about being John Lennon, his own music and returning to Philly.

Liverpool loses another Beatles landmark
February 6, 2012

The building located on Whitechapel that housed Brian Epstein's NEMS (North East Music Stores), and also the law offices of Rex Makin who was Brian's neighbor on Queen's Drive and had gave Brian legal advice on the Beatles, is being torn down and will be demolished in phases over the next few weeks.According to a local source familiar with the demolition project, the building was in need of major repairs, and the building office/store layout was poorly designed and unrentable for commercial tenants.NEMS was one of the top grossing record stores in the NorthWest and Epstein utilized his London based record company contacts established thru NEMS to setup auditions for the Beatles in early 1961 with Decca and later with EMI.The Epstein family's NEMS store was located less than a block away from the landmark Mathew Street Cavern Club where Brian Epstein heard the Beatles play for the very first time on November 9, 1961.NEMS played a critical role for Brian who used the upstairs offices to meet privately with the Beatles to discuss managing them and later formed NEMS Management.

Meet The Beatles Again: A Conversation With Roberta Flack

A Conversation with Roberta Flack
Mike Ragogna: Roberta, how are you ?
Roberta Flack: Doing well, Mike. How are you?
MR: Very well, thanks. Your new album is Let It Be: Roberta Flack Sings The Beatles, so maybe we should start by talking about your early memories of The Beatles?
RF: Well, you know, we sort of popped out of the oven at the same time musically. I mean, they'd been around for a while by the time I came out, but around the time that I came onto the scene, my name may have been listed with the likes of them. I think it was probably because of the type of music that people associated with me. I mean, "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" was one of the all-time great lyrical ballads. Then you had songs in a similar vein coming from The Beatles like "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be." All of those songs were flowing so easily off of everyone's tongues at the time.

Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney Issue Complimentary Singles Simultaneously !

Recently, Ringo dispelled rumors of a Beatles reunion; after all, John and George left us many years ago. Yet, it's still possible that Ringo and Paul can reunite in some kinetic interactive symbiosis of popish tune-smithing in very short order. (Well, you know what me means by Beatling!) With the free and easy access of song digital downloading on itunes, being what it is nowadays, I mustered up my own creation of a new Beatles' single (both A sides, of course), with Ringo's Wings (from Ringo 2012) on one side and Paul's My Valentine (from Kisses On The Bottom) on the other side.

Paul McCartney Still Finds It Hard to Believe He Was in The Beatles

In an interview with the Metro, Paul McCartney said he sometimes finds it hard to believe he was actually in The Beatles.McCartney added that he's happy the novelty of being in the Fab Four still hadn't faded for him."I'm lucky I've always retained a sense of wonder," he said. "I was looking at the George Harrison book accompanying Martin Scorsese's Living In The Material World recently and opened it at a picture George had taken of me and the other guys on an airplane. I took me right back; I was like, 'Was I really there, in The Beatles? Bloody hell!'

Beatles ‘come together’ in Wallingford mural

For three years, the exterior wall of Golden Oldies in Wallingford was home to five musical icons spanning just as many generations.Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Debbie Harry and Kurt Cobain were immortalized in a graffiti-style mural until 2010. Early one morning in August, the driver of an SUV, presumed by police to be texting behind the wheel, plowed through the record store. Casualties included 3,000 records, 2,000 CDs and hundreds of 8-track tapes.Store-owner Dean Silverstone was heartbroken, he told Seattle P-I reporter Casey McNerthney. Since then, time, good music and an outpouring of community support have helped to mend his distress.*Soon, the store’s west wall will be graced with musical greatness once again: The Beatles are slated to take to the figurative stage next, thanks to mural artist David Heck.

Ringo Starr won’t be part of a Beatles reunion involving children of George Harrison and John Lennon

For some time, there’s been a rumor floating around of a possible reformulation of the Beatles, with surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr being joined by Dhani Harrison and Julian Lennon — sons of the late George Harrison and John Lennon. Starr has nixed his own involvement in any such reunion under his old band’s name, though he says he’d happily work with McCartney again.“The door is open that Paul and I might play together, but it is not like a reunion,” Starr says, as he continues to meet with the media to talk about his new release, Ringo 2012. “It is not going to be the Beatles, you know? They have those crazy ideas that maybe we could use their children. It is never going to happen.”Last summer, Julian Lennon expressed a similar reluctance to performing together as “the Beatles”: “There will NEVER be a Beatles reunion, because two of the members of the band have since passed … and NO ONE could, or should try to replace them,” Lennon wrote on his Facebook page in July.

S.W.A.L.K. This Way

Paul McCartney is in love again and he's also released a new album that's a love letter to the golden era of songs he grew up listening to in Liverpool. Alan Corr meets the once and forever Beatle in London and talks about his old band (not Wings), growing up in Liverpool, and the future."I took piano lessons when I was 21 and they wanted to take me back to the basics but by then I'd written Eleanor Rigby and I did not want to go back", says Paul McCartney. He raises his eyebrows in mock surprise and an impish smile plays across his curiously youthful face. This is classic Macca - an acknowledgment that hey, he's just a normal lad from Liverpool but hey, let's face it, he's also a Beatle.

It All Began in Hamburg
Marxh 2012

I went to the Star-Club once, but I didn’t see The Beatles. They'd long since left the building, playing their last residency there 50 years ago, in 1962.By the time I fetched up on Hamburg's Reeperbahn, that legendary strip where The Beatles and many more like them served their rock'n'roll apprenticeships, the Star-Club itself was also a place of fond memory. It was by then a sex club, called The Salambo. This was May 1978. I was in Germany on assignment for what used to be Melody Maker. My mission, as it was explained to me, was to "take the temperature of the German rock scene". To this end, I get in touch with a jovial soul named Teddy Meier, European Artist Development Manager for Chrysalis Records. Teddy has an office on Feldbrunnenstrasse. I tell him I can be there in half an hour, but Teddy's having none of it. He’ll come to me. "At once!" he adds with high-pitched urgency. Not long after this, Teddy’s on his third or fourth huge stein of a powerful local brew, quaffing for the fatherland from a glass so heavy he has to hoist it from the table in a double-handed grip, like a Viking.

George Harrison's sister heads to the Grammys

SARASOTA, Fla. - How does a trip to California sound ? One that includes attending the Grammys, where a CD you've worked on is nominated ? It may sound like a dream, but it's a reality for one Suncoast woman. When Louise Harrison was eleven years old, her younger brother George was born. She didn't know it then, but George of course became part of one of the most famous bands in history. " There's probably not much I can tell you that people think they do not know about George Harrison of the Beatles," says Harrison.

Please Please Me: The Beatles Debut Album At 49

What did you do today? If you spent 12 hours creating a body of work in your name which would launch your artistic career and, almost half a century later was still the discussion of critics and fans, then you are either a genius, extremely hardworking, fortunate, or a little of all three.Yet, when they recorded the bulk of their debut album on Monday February 11th 1963, that is exactly what a hopeful, young band of rock 'n' roll musicians with rough edges and a head full of ambition did, at EMI's recording studios in London's St John's Wood. With its lyrical themes of teen angst, insecurity, euphoric joy, love and depression, combined with the high octane rock ‘n’ roll of its loud guitars and trashy open high-hats, the release of Please Please Me in March 1963 was a seminal moment in the history of British rock music.

Lennon and Other World Class Artists Spread Joy to Children in Japan

World renown musicians produce charitable album that aims to bring hope to children with cancer in Japan and their families.A group of internationally established musicians and producers joined forces to kick off the season of giving early last year by producing an album that aims to bring hope to children with cancer in Japan and their families. The CD is called 'Shine On! Songs Volume One' and has uplifting songs from a variety of genres. They were brought together by the Tyler Foundation, a Japan based NPO that has established a number of innovative psycho-social support programs since 2006 throughout the country for children with cancer and their families. After a devastating earthquake and tsunami rocked north-eastern Japan in March 2011, the Foundation sought to use its experience in treating stress in children with cancer, to help children in these areas recover psychologically. All proceeds from the album's sales will go to fund the organization's programs. One of the album artists is the Grammy nominated Julian Lennon, son of famed Beatles member John Lennon. Lennon is known for his charitable works, so when the Tyler Foundation approached him with the idea of donating a song for their album, he was all too willing to help. Lennon re-recorded his 1993 song 'Children of the World' which was also featured on the Japanese anime movie 'Coo' and can be heard

Roberta Flack's glad, sad ties to Beatles

On "Let It Be: Roberta Flack Sings the Beatles," the mellow-voiced songstress works her way through the Fab Four songbook, including such tunes as "The Long and Winding Road" and "We Can Work It Out."The album, out this week, features liner notes from Yoko Ono, John Lennon's widow. It seems that Flack lives in the Dakota, the New York co-op perhaps best known as the location where Lennon was killed."Yoko lives right across the hall from me," Flack tells the Huffington Post. "I had the privilege of knowing both her and John because we all moved in the same year. We've been neighbors all these years and had some wonderful, beautiful and interesting moments together. Also some very sad moments, of course."

There's no shortage of stars, real and imagined, visible along Hollywood's Walk of Fame, but even by Tinseltown standards, Paul McCartney ramped up the quotient Thursday in getting his own belated star. The former Beatle drew several hundred fans who packed a cordoned-off section of Vine Street outside Capitol Records for the ceremony. He brought several Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member pals along for the ride, including Neil Young, who gave McCartney a cheery introduction, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh and pop music power couple Elvis Costello and Diana Krall. Paul McCartney: 'Criticism for 'Kisses On The Bottom' title reminds me of The Beatles'
Singer says he isn't worried because people mocked the Fab Fours' name, too

Paul McCartney says he's ignoring criticism of the title of his new album 'Kisses On The Bottom' because it's no different to how people used to mock the name of his old band, The Beatles.
McCartney, who released the LP earlier this week (February 6), told BBC Radio 2 that he stood by the LP's cheeky name even though it had proved unpopular with some fans.
"I remembered people really sort of cringing when we told them we were called The Beatles. Everyone went 'Ughh, creepy-crawly insects," he said, before adding:

For Beatles Tribute Band, Belief in Yesterday Leads to Grammy Nomination

Among the Nashville musicians in this year’s Grammy nominations is a Beatles tribute band. The Wannabeatles’ nomination isn’t for music, it’s for a collection of memories from Beatles fans. This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles first getting together. By that standard, The Wannabeatles are relative newcomers; they’ve only been around for about two decades. Instead of John, Paul, George and Ringo, there’s Dennis, Bryan, David, and Nathan. Their first gig was playing at a Mexican restaurant, but nowadays you’re more likely to find them playing at venues like Puckett’s in Franklin.

New Lennon steps into amazing shoes

For Adam Hastings it was either going to be a career in football or music.Thankfully the 24-year-old from Newcastle upon Tyne plumped for the latter and now belongs to one of the best-known tribute acts in the world. The Bootleg Beatles formed more than three decades ago and have since performed around the globe. The group has taken to the stage at Wembley Stadium, Glastonbury and were booked as the warm-up for Oasis at their 1996 Knebworth concert.Last year long-serving band member Neil Harrison stepped down from the role of John Lennon. And after several nerve-wracking auditions, Adam was eventually chosen to take his place.
