Default Setlist Ideas for John

Well, he asked for it! I'm not quite sure how this would best be done. I suppose we can all post song suggestions, then summarize some of the most popular choices as well as some cool rare cuts that were mentioned. Maybe we can PM the song suggestions to Marty & Lis to forward to John.

I'm not stupid, I know we can't collectively choose the entire setlist. But if he's seriously asking, maybe we could have some influence, even if it's just a song or two. Perhaps there's a slightly obscure tune that he/they've honestly never considered doing, or a song that hasn't been done in a long time that he/they assumed nobody cared to hear anymore. So I say let's give it a shot. Perhaps one song will catch their eye & they'll give it a try.

Here's my list. I am going to assume that the tour will feature the same 4 members as the SYW Tour. I don't dare hope for anyone else for fear of being disappointed. And I'm not going to post the songs that I'm relatively sure will be in (I'm assuming Dreams, Tusk, Don't Stop, GYOW, Landslide & The Chain aren't going anywhere.)

Also, I am not going to list many pre-BN songs, since I don't feel that I am familiar enough with those eras to suggest songs that would be done (and done well) currently by this incaration of the band. I hope other Ledgies will chime in on this material - Chili, Homer, etc.

So, please post your ideas here & maybe, just maybe, we can have a teeny tiny influence on the setlist. Maybe not. But it can't hurt, right?

Anyway, here are my songs:

Green Manalishi (this is one bad ass tune, and I love the versions I've heard from the '75 tour)

Monday Morning (replaces Second Hand News)

World Turning (loved it on SYW tour, even with Stevie on Vocal)

I Don't Wanna Know (they usually play practically the entire Rumours album, so why not?)

The Ledge (although it might be too fast paced for them these days - keep the O2 close by)

What Makes You Think You're the One (replaces IKINW)

Storms (replaces Beautiful Child)

Angel (although I have my doubts - not sure the magic can be captured again, she may half-ass it. And if she did, I'd be let down.)

SOTM (although I think this would have to replace GDW - too similar - and I'm not sure if I'd want GDW dropped. Also, that's an awful lot of Tusk-era Stevie tunes in the set, esp. if Sara stays)

Seven Wonders (Fun tune. What the hell. I'd like to hear something from TITN)

Tango In the Night (this would rock hard)

{I've always loved these SYW songs & think they'd be great live - pick two}
Steal Your Heart Away
Miranda
Illume
Thrown Down
Smile At You

If Chris were to do any shows (OK, I couldn't resist ) :

(assuming that YMLF, Over My Head, SYLM would automatically be in...)
Why
Oh Daddy
Think About Me
Honey Hi
Hold Me
Little Lies
Save Me
Songbird (to close)

As far as I'm concerned, they can drop/keep out:

All SYW tunes that were done on the SYW tour (that tour was great, but it's over now, let's throw something different in)
Don't Stop (yeah, I know, never gonna leave...)
Sara (sorry, I was thrilled when I saw them do it in 2004, but looking/listening back, it was good but not great)
Silver Springs (it's had it's magical moment, let's not run it into the ground)
Stand Back (I love it, but I'd rather no solo tunes this tour)
Eyes of the World
Never Going Back Again
Gypsy (unless they want to bust out with an acoustic version, ala' AHI 2000 - then, I'm all for it.)
Big Love (if it's not the album version, I've heard it enough, thanks)

And the only tune that I would honestly be upset over if they dropped? Go Your Own Way. I'm flexible with the rest. As much as I love most of the hits, if dropping Rhiannon or GDW means that Angel or SOTM make it in, then I say do it. If dropping I'm So Afraid means we get Tango? Buh-bye.

I agree with all of these although I don't need to see a cheesy drum solo on World Turning. I would like to add:

Blue Letter
Crystal
Gyspy acoustic
That's Alright

that's alright would've been fabulous 25 years ago ... now she'd have to drop it 2 octaves and still shorten the range.

totally agree about the rest, though. blue letter 2k8!!!

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I don't think for a second that we can influence the setlist, because I don't think John would be able to influence the setlist, as lovely as he is.

But I would like Angel, Storms, Monday Morning, and Miranda.

excellent, excellent list. LOVE green manalishi, and the ledge! i would personally lose from your list world turning, monday morning, and what makes you think you're the one.

i'd replace those with:

oh well

blue letter

crystal

i love GYOW, too. it rocks live. i'd hate to see ISA go... but i'm with you, if they swapped it for TITN.

I forgot Frozen Love. That's a must. I kind of agree with Ryan that John probably doesn't have a huge influence over the setlist. Stevie and Lindsey are the ones singing the songs so I think they would have the most say.

I agree on That's Alright - it's the only reason I didn't include it. I bet it would sound pretty good for the most part - but I'd be belting out the "oh you KNOW...it's been on...my mind" part at the show, and she wouldn't, and I'd look stupid, and we can't have that.

Whah-whah.

I feel you, Ryan. But I refuse to believe that the changes made to the second leg of the SYW came out of a band member's ass. The web had to have something to do with it. Sara, after years of saying it wouldn't be back? Come on. We know that I Know I'm Not Wrong came (at least partially) via suggestion of some Ledgies in AUS. It could happen. Really.

I adore Sweet Girl.

Eh. They've already done WTWCT live. I'd rather hear an alternative from SYW. It is a good song, but.....

And I completely forgot Spare Me a Little. I concur.

The only reason I didn't put any BN tunes in is that I'm holding out hope for the BN tour that LB vaguely hinted at in a recent interview.

Also - Blue Letter rocks, but I'd rather have all Mac tunes, no covers. JMO.

I had Lisa foward this to John. I tried to do what he said and still make it feasible. He said to make sure it flowed. I don't think its a good idea to fill a set list with all obscure tunes, so I kind of did an off and on thing. Heres what was sent, I'd love to hear feedback:

The Chain
Dreams
Steal Your Heart Away
Freedom
Eyes of the World
Second Hand News
Thrown Down
Never Going Back Again
Rhiannon
Tango in the Night
Gypsy
Big Love
Seven Wonders
Red Rover
Storms
Gold Dust Woman
I'm So Afraid
Running Through the Garden
Tusk
Stand Back
Go Your Own Way
Blue Letter
Don't Let me Down Again
Don't Stop
Crystal

Any set that doesn't include "Oh Well" is just not worth paying the money to see. Yes, that's right, I would pay their God-awful, over-inflated ticket prices just to hear one F***ing song.
