Well, no... you wouldn't bake it in an oven, you'd use a frying pan.

An oven is really a necessity when it comes to 'baked goods'.

But you can make meat in the oven...

I'm kidding.

An oven is a necessity - as apparently is a dry heat....so much for my George Foreman Steam toaster

Man...I really want some cookies (an actual baked good) now

I tend to agree. The people on the mainland (I'm on a oil platform 40 miles off the coast) are much like the Inuit (sorry if I've got the spelling wrong) and catch was is available in the sea locally. The oil firms buy it to save import costs and to support the local people. Tiksi has only about 1000 people.

I'm not into the pointless killing of whales. I see them most days - as it's dark the lights on the rigs attract them and in summer we see them everywhere. Because the water is so clear they are amazing to watch.

Wow, I think I'm jealous. The closest I ever came to seeing a whale was in Seaworld.

Are you originally from Siberia?

an oven isn't a necessity ... just a dry heat. which is why toasted things can be considered baked goods.

Most of the sea around me is frozen but there are places where the currents prevent the ice forming. Whales use these to catch some air. In the summer there are loads of different types here - you see 20 - 30 every day for about 3 months. They are incredible.

Now in February we get about two and a half hours from about 11am (it's 9.10am now) til 1.30pm when it is like dusk or early morning in the US. It is still dark but not pitch black. When we get to the middle of June we can see the sun every day all day til late September. The sun just goes in a circle 'round the sky - very bizarre.

Anyway musn't hijack the toast thread!
