Well, Homer was a little off base. I never said I didn't like it. I haven't listened to it yet.

One of the most played CDs I have is a home made version with Mystery to Me backed by Bare Trees. It's a wonderful hour or so of music that flows amazingly well. To me, those two albums seem to mark the end of one era and beginning of another with the band. There are very few transitions that haven't been all that great, which reflects in a positive way for the core. They and some might not agree It's almost like you can feel a certain energy that's different, but seems to lead to some very progressive (and in some cases, pop-driven) stuff.

hey-cut me some slack! . I just bought the album 3 days ago AND I am so stepping out of my comfort zone here. But that's cool. I have to "listen" to the songs instead of speeding through or I'll never like them. And it's the last track

Well it's ONLY the most liked, most talked about and all around most wonderful song on the album. When I bought my copy, I listened to that song first.

It is an amazing album for sure. It was my favourite album from the transitional years for a long time, but now I prefer "Bare Trees" - I feel its just more consistent....
"Hypnotized" and "Why" are two of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs though, along with "Come A Little Bit Closer" "The Ghost" and "Child of Mine" Last edited by foxyluva; 10-22-2006 at 05:23 AM.. |

Mystery to Me is a great album. Both Bob and Christine were really cooking as songwriters on this one. The album's only weaknesses are the cover of "For Your Love," which isn't a bad song, but is unnecessary (the original is better) -- and the cover "art." What were they thinking? It's on my list of worst album covers ever by any band. Why they couldn't have used that fabulous picture of the band under the skylight (that appears on the inside of the gatefold cover on the LP) as the cover, I will never know.

I'm still irked at Bob Weston for screwing up the subsequent tour. Mystery To Me could well have been (well, "was on the way" to being) what the white album ended up being, their "breakthrough" album in the US. "Hypnotized", "Believe Me", "Just Crazy Love" & "Miles Away" were getting airplay on FM Radio. The only thing they needed was an AM radio hit. (which they didn't get until "Over My Head") The tour was going over well. Then the tour was canceled due to Bob Weston & Jenny Fleetwood's affair.
And, I'm a little pissed at Mick for "going off the deep end" in 1973 when he & Jenny were having problems, yet in 1975, he didn't bat an eye about considering cancelling THAT tour when he & Jenny were breaking up again...it was "circle the wagons, we're carrying on, full speed ahead". "Weaknesses"?!? Mystery To Me HAS no "weaknesses".

Yep, Weston SCREWED up!, what could've been the BIG breakthough(although as Chili said, Mick's to blame, too, for not just "sucking it up").
Oh god, what would we have ever done without B/N?
