Alcohol related liver failure...he was 63.

Guess we'll be hearing "Stuck In The Middle", "Baker Street" & "Right Down The Line" a lot for the next week or so. (not that it's a bad thing...just a SAD thing)

I hope Rafael Ravenscroft gets residuals instead of getting paid a flat union scale fee for those sax solos.

Rarely does Rest In Peace apply to anyone more than this tormented fellow.

RIP Mr. Rafferty. I was saddened to learn of his death today.

Baker Street and Right Down the Line hold such very bittersweet memories in my musical soul. Baker Street came out around the same time my daughter was born. I was still a (very young) newlywed and full of hope and promise, but also knew deep down I'd married the wrong man, so my hope was marred by fear. When I'd hear Gerry's songs on the radio, they would whisk me away for a few minutes. My mind would float away on the melodies.

You really nailed it there. Gerry's songs have always transported me away, too. I've always thought it is neat how his songs are pretty straightforward storytelling, but his instrumental melodies and production style are very mystical and whimsical. It's like the perfect combo for totally removing you from your own life's problems for a few minutes while his songs play. It's unfortunate Gerry never found his way/peace... he had so much to offer.

Baker Street is just a magical song. As beautiful as it is, to this day I still get melancholic chills of mellow.

Gerry Rafferty really did manage to capture the melancholy and the romantiscism of what used to be described as a drinking career.."one more bottle dead and a the new day just begun"
