Remembering the Challenger
Today marks the 19th anniversary of the Challenger tragedy. I was four when it happened, and it is the first news event that I remember. So sad.

Oh man...
I was 8. I can't remember exactly, but I think our school had brought in a TV into our small lunchroom (small private school) and we watched it, and when it blew up, it was just unbelievable. Also, the more recent Columbia disaster happening just brought back those memories and being in Texas where lots of the debris fell...

I was in 9th grade and in Biology class during the Challenger disaster. My teacher was so excited because Christa Mcauliff was going up and she had been talking about it for a long time. She was so shocked after it happened that she couldn't do anything to console us, she wasn't speaking at all. It was so horrible.

I find out about the explosion until after school. I walked in the door. My younger brother asked me "Didyou hear about the Challenger?" I said jokingly. "Did it blow up?" He replied "Yes" Definitely a sad day.

I was six - and I don't actually have any memories of the actual event - I didn't find out about it by watching - it was more word of mouth - everyone was talking about it. So sad.
Then several years later I did a report for a class on Christa Mcauliff - I must have been in third grade or so when I did that - I was MAJORLY into space and everything about it at that time.... I didn't realize today was the anniversary - you'd think that would have gotten more attention in the media |

I was 15, and I was home sick that day by myself. I saw it happen live on TV, and I watched all day and all night. I kept on thinking there might be a chance they were alive. I couldn't stop watching and hoping. The way I tell it is that I saw that shuttle blow up about 50 times that day, and then I had nightmares about it all night. I'll never forget it. It so horrendously sad.

Wow. 19 Years today? I can't believe it. I was in 2nd grade. I remember the teacher told us about it when it happened. I do remember going home and watching the footage. The image is engraved in my memory too. Sad day....

whoa, 19 years already?
I remember vividly, I happened to have the tv on, and of course the networks all cut in for live shots of the launch, and it cutaway to the spectators in the stand and you could see when you watched them, when they pointed and clapped, they had NO idea what happened, it didnt sink in for them until a split second later...I was standing in my front room with my jaw hanging open, goosebumps all over kinda in shock.....and then they replayed it and replayed it but they didnt show the audience reaction again because Im sure by then the audience in the stands were crying....it was SO very sad.....
