[From a NME review of Courtney Love's album]
March 17, 2014 by Ben Hewitt http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/h...ank-the-albums But for now, let’s stick with ‘Celebrity Skin’, the album on which Hole fluttered their eyelashes at the mainstream and looked ****ing brilliant while doing so. Because while ‘Pretty On The Inside’ is so disturbingly, arrestingly honest, there’s a different type of bravery behind ‘Celebrity Skin’. By rights, in fact, it shouldn’t really work at all. In theory, it’s a reinvention too far, a group of nasty, grungy punks softening up and swapping irascible noise for sleek choruses and shiny melodies. In practice, it’s a mainstream honey trap, mixing Courtney’s lifelong hero-worship of Stevie Nicks and FM pop with angsty stadium-rock. Everyone knows the title track, of course: that crunching riff, those tongue-poking-hole-in-cheek lyrics mocking Hollywood vapidity, the butter-wouldn’t-melt posturing blown apart by the snarl “You’d better watch out/ What you wish for”. Elsewhere, there’s the Fleetwood Mac stuck in an LA-cocaine flake blizzard of ‘Awful’, the escapist haze of ‘Malibu’, the ghost of Kurt Cobain flickering in ‘Playing Your Song’ (“I had to tell them they were wrong/ And now they’re playing your song”), the walloping exuberance of ‘Hit So Hard’, the deft intimacy of ‘Northern Star’... no, I definitely prefer this one. I think. Read more at http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/h...tZpaJjStPSq.99 |

[Huffington Post, excerpt from interview by Alana Haim]
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/0...y&ir=Celebrity “Growing up, there were a lot of girl artists like the Spice Girls, Aaliyah and Destiny’s Child,” she said. “But none of them really played instruments and I would always look up to Stevie Nicks and Blondie -- they are dope female musicians. So I just see us as a band. When people call us a girl band, I take it as an insult -- being a girl in a band shouldn’t be a thing. It seems so medieval.” |

[Ella Hooper discusses Stevie and FM, excerpt from interview]
Daily Review by Ben Neutze, April 1, 2014 http://dailyreview.crikey.com.au/ell...usic-business/ But her focus is back on music, with her forthcoming release In Tongues largely inspired by her time on the road with Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. “Having some time to spend with her was a big influence on this solo record; her solo material from the 80s, like Stand Back and Edge of Seventeen. She went solo then rejoined the band and does whatever she wants, and she has very similar inspirations to me, with the witchy, esoteric themes.” But the supporting performances with her band at the time, The Verses (a country-indie fusion band formed with her brother Jesse post-Heidi), didn’t lead to bigger and better things. “It was a tricky project. We got signed, we had a lot of interest, we got to go to the States and record, and it was all looking very good. Then we had this incredible experience of touring with the Mac, and then things didn’t go much further than that. But if that’s all that that band achieved; a great record and touring with the Mac; then that’s not bad.” |

Miley Cyrus sings Landslide over her dog's death
Yuck. It's happened.
http://www.toofab.com/2014/04/02/mil...e-performance/ It's been a very emotional day for Miley Cyrus. The singer is still mourning the death of her Alaskan Klee Kai puppy Floyd, who passed away on Tuesday -- and the pooch was still on her mind during a performance in Boston earlier today. The singer invited thousands of fans to a special KISS 108 FM sound check before her Bangerz tour in the Massachusetts capitol city later on this evening, where she dedicated "Landslide" to her late pet. "My dog who is, I shouldn't say he was my favorite, but he was my favorite, he passed away," she told the crowd. "I just wanted to do this song for him because we used to always listen to Fleetwood Mac together and this was his favorite song." Miley was visibly upset during the performance, and, at one point, even started crying. Her sister Noah even came onstage to comfort Cyrus, giving her a hug and moral support while she sang. |

[Idolator.com did a round up on what their readers were talking about: ]
http://www.idolator.com/7512695/what...eaders-talking :: Morgan was taken by Stevie Nicks‘ collaboration with Lady Antebellum on Stevie Nicks Teams Up With Lady Antebellum For A New Version Of “Golden”: Listen: “Gorgeous beyond words. What a treat to hear a new recording from Stevie. Her voice blends beautifully with Charles, Maybe he can join Fleetwood Mac? Can you imagine him, Stevie and Christine harmonizing? Lindsay Buckingham’s voice leaves me cold, so I have to fantasize of alternate male voices to go with Stevie’s.” |
