Default Under The Skin #42 of top 50 Albums of the Year in new Rolling Stone

The Year in Review issue is out and they've put UTS at #42 of the top 50 albums of the year (it should've been higher, but what do you expect from the idiots at RS?)

Here's what they said:

In "Not Too Late," Buckingham looks back at his life in Fleetwood Mac with frantic flamencolike guitar: "Reading the paper, saw a review/Said I was a visionary, but nobody knew/Now that's been a problem/Feeling unseen." He could fix that by making records more often. But the eccentricity of Skin suits Buckingham's reflections of his past life and current blessings. And he is secure enough to cover madrigals by Donovan ("To Try For The Sun") and the Rolling Stones ("I Am Waiting"), with quietly magnetic results.

Well, #41 is Sean Lennon's Friendly Fire, #38 is Tool's 10,000 Days, #35 is John Legend's Once Again, and #20 is My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade. No offense to anybody who is fan of any of the above, but I really can't stand them.

Here's the list to put it into some context.
Although I think Rolling Stone is one of the worst music mags out there these days, there are actually some really great choices on this list (nice to see The Roots on this one). But how the hell did Stadium Arcadium get voted as the second best album of the year???? Weird.

48. Public Warning - Lady Sovereign
47. Brightblack Morning Light - Brightback Morning Light

45. Fox Confessor Brings The Flood - Neko Case
44. Show Your Bones - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
43. Tropicalia: A Brazilian Revolution In Sound - Various Artists
42. Under The Skin - Lindsey Buckingham

35. Once Again - John Legend
34. The Eraser - Thom Yorke
33. The Devil You Know - Todd Snider
32. Supernature - Goldfrapp
31. Like Father, Like Son - Birdman And Lil Wayne
30. Robbers & Cowards - Cold War Kids
29. We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions - Bruce Springsteen

23. The Crane Wife - The Decemberists
22. Night Ripper - Girl Talk
21. Begin To Hope - Regina Spektor
20. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance

44. Show Your Bones - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
42. Under The Skin - Lindsey Buckingham

14. American V: A Hundred Highways - Johnny Cash

These should have been higher, especially the Neko Case album, but I agree with the ranking of Cat Power and Bob Dylan. It would have been nice to see Jenny Lewis on that list as well...

And what the hell is John Mayer's album doing at #11? Its not even that good

I agree. Neko should have been top 10 without a doubt. Still, like someone said before, with all the albums released this year it's still impressive that they made the list at all.
Did you like the Chilli's album? I just find it amazing it placed so high.

The Chilli's album is a snooze-fest - possibly the most overrated album of 2006

And I cannot get over the fact that John Mayer is so high, let-alone on that list at all...

Not to worry, I haven't heard of most of them either and I'm only 25.

I glad it's just not me! And I don't get the John Mayer love either. He's one of those bland American singer/songwriters like Dave Matthews, who just seems inexplicitly popular.

Ugh, don't even get me started on Dave Matthews *puke*. John Mayers album is not even that good though - check the reviews, most critics only gave it 2 to 3 stars, and I sure as hell didn't like it I have also noticed that John is trying more and more to sound like Eric Clapton...

Speaking of Eric Clapton - its an absolute crime that his new album with JJ Cale is not on that list - I would put it top 5.

These lists are never satisfying, but I think it is pretty cool that his album made it. I do think Neko case should have been higher. I am glad to see Brightback Morning Light on there.

Well Congrats Lindsey!!!

Where the hell are the Killers? They have an article about them EVERY week in Rolling Stone. I can't believe they didn't even chart. The new chilli peppers CD is AWESOME! Definitely deserving of a #2 spot. John Mayers album sucked.
