Default Poll: Bush approval dips below 40 percent

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9279799/

AP survey: Lowest rating yet as president criticized over gas prices, Katrina

WASHINGTON - President Bush’s job approval has dipped below 40 percent for the first time in the AP-Ipsos poll, reflecting widespread doubts about his handling of gasoline prices and the response to Hurricane Katrina.

Nearly four years after Bush’s job approval soared into the 80s after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Bush was at 39 percent job approval in an AP-Ipsos poll taken this week. That’s the lowest since the the poll was started in December 2003.

The public’s view of the nation’s direction has grown increasingly negative as well, with nearly two-thirds now saying the country is heading down the wrong track.

The last third, IMO is the "take his word as gospel" base.
Should the number get down to 33%, you will most certainly see some ass saving manuevers on the part of the GOP. With those kind of numbers, they will certainly fair poorly in the 2006 mid terms.

Well, the Feds did save thousands of lives The one thing FEMA did incorrectly was that it delayed food and supplies from getting to survivors for about four or so days until it had assembled its own suplies. But even with that unexcusable actionm, FEMA has still saved thousands

Many people are just pissed that the able bodied people did not evacuate the city. I agree with them here because when these these able bodied became stranded, these people hindered the rescue and recovery of the thousands of people who were unable to evacuate.

They were also pissed at the Mayor of NOLA for not cooperating with the plan to use the school buses to evacuate the disabled and poor to the dome. The mayor is solidly at fault here.

What they do not get IMO is that in their blind support of W, it is possible for many to have acted poorly.

The GOP will be in a very difficult position then and it sort of is now. They most def. can betray W as his family is far to powerful to let that happen without taking down many powerful people with him. Yet, if W's approval rating drops any lower, few candidates in 06 or 08 will want anything to do with him. Lame duck indeed

Who exactly do they poll for things like this...no one I know that's for sure.

I have been called a few times.

But, the way polling works is they ask a certain number of people based on many factors that are there to ensure that the sample pool is not biased. Then, the extrpolate the final number from the responses from that pool.

Most are fairly done - but some are not.

In the end, almost evey poll outside of Fox News (which historically reports only inaccurate ones ) - indicates W's numbers are falling fast. When they all, as opposed to only a few, say that, then it is kind of hard to question them.

Yeah, I always wondered who they were polling when his approval was above 80%.
Certainly wasn't anyone I know!
