Creating the Worst Possible Setlist
A year ago, users on the Radiohead subreddit worked together to create the worst possible setlist. To my understanding, we have not done anything like this, so it would be worthwhile to partake in this thought experiment.
There are several factors that go into picking a horrible setlist. Some features that we should be aiming for include:
For this ungodly performance, I will be assuming that Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks are assembling for one miserable final show. 1) When I See You Again - Start off the set on a low note. 2) World Turning (but only the vest solo) 3) Stevie Nicks' long-winded "Gypsy" preamble 4) Lizard People 5) Never Going Back Again (but at 30 BPM) 6) Only Over You (but poorly sung by Stevie Nicks) 7) Born Enchanter (but poorly sung by Lindsey Buckingham) 8) Say You Will (forced audience sing-along) 9) Did You Ever Love Me (Mick Fleetwood and John McVie go to the front of the stage to perform a steel drum duet) 10) Lindsey Buckingham compares Fleetwood Mac to movie making 11) These Strange Times (Stevie Nicks bravely tackles Bekka Bramlett and Lucy Fleetwood's backing vocals) 12) Lindsey Buckingham compares his solo work to painting 13) Songbird (but it's a highly processed rendition on the Fairlight CMI) 14) Thoughts on a Grey Day (demonically recited in unison by Mick, John, Lindsey, Stevie) 15) Oh Diane If you have any suggestions to make this worse, let me know. I'm also interested to see what horrible setlist you all come up with Last edited by WalkAThinLine.; 10-27-2023 at 08:07 AM.. |

Sadly a new low speed record has already been shattered (see Will Ferrell charity concert). Quote:
What would you call this tour? A Non-Sequitir Soiree with Fleetwood Mac? The Show Should Not Go On tour? Oh Diane would probably be a highlight after all that, by the way. And I would happily sit through a live version of WISYA. Well, twenty-five years ago, maybe. When at least there was a dream left...

Ha! I would actually pay good money to see this show simply because it would be so different from the same old, same old!
Love the initial set list. I would replace “Oh Diane” with “Come” - the worst Lindsey song in the Mac catalog and a fittingly dreary bookend to “WISYA.”

Stevie has so many songs that drone on, it's easy to forget.

It’s amazing how one persons ‘nightmare’ setlist inclusions can be another persons dream.
Personally I’d love to have had a set that included…. Welcome to the Room…Sara Bermuda Triangle (sung by Stevie) What Makes You Think You’re the One? (Lindsey playing Kleenex boxes) Mystified….any version (this could have been a killer inclusion with Lindsey’s solo) When I See You Again (could have made a lovely alternative closer) Oh Diane (acoustic…as a much needed alternative to Big Love/NGBA) Paper Doll Come My nightmare set would include…. Dreams (yawn) Big Love….acoustic (yawn) Never Going Back Again….snails pace version (yawn) Raspberry Beret (Stevie tribute to Prince) Learning to Fly (Stevie tribute to Tom Petty) Teen Beat These Strange Times Songbird (Stevie tribute to Christine with Stevie vocals/piano) No Questions Asked

I noticed several songs were chosen that were never performed live before, and that we think would sound awful based on how much we dislike the recorded song. That’s different, I think, from songs that FM have performed live that now sound awful. I have three examples; Never Going Back Again- a truly beautiful song that, in some misguided sense of passion I guess, Lindsey has unfortunately turned into a caricature of a song. Gypsy- part of it may be Stevie isn’t capable of singing it as well anymore, but what she’s done to compensate instead makes it even worse. A shadow of the song it used to be live, or is on the recording. Big Love is another example- I like the recorded version a lot, but the way it is performed live makes it a completely different song. Imagine Dragons played Big Love at MusisCares years ago, and it was awesome. If Imagine Dragons can do it justice, surely FM could!
What songs do you think FM performed poorly in the past, due to the arrangement or age or whatever? |
