I think I played my fingers off trying to copy Clapton's River Of Tears tonight.
From the first Crossroads benefit DVD. What a show! |

I'm listening to Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone, which is streaming on NPR for the moment. It's pretty cool, at least if you dig covers.

In the last few days, I've binge-listened to:
Neil Young (with & without Crazy Horse, mainly WITH) Poco (post-Timothy B Schmit era...'77-'13). Yes, he was in a band before the Eagles. And, he took Randy Meisner's place when he joined Poco in '69, too) Yes (material from "Union" to current) Bob Dylan From religion back to politics & a tour with the Grateful Dead...1979-1989...which led me to... ...The Grateful Dead Listened to a bunch of shows from their last tour before Jerry died (1995); just in time to celebrate the end of the band over the July 4th weekend. Trey Anastasio is no Jerry Garcia. But, I did listen to a couple of old Phish shows, too. Oh...and if you're into the whole Jam Band thing... String Cheese Incident moe. Umphrey's McGee Leftover Salmon ...are all really cool bands.

The Chicago shows blew my shows out of the water, though. The setlists were like a dream. Sorry for rambling, I'm just excited someone else on here is also a fan!

I've heard recordings of the 2003 "The Dead" shows, I think those were pretty great. Warren Haynes really stepped up with his "Jerry" impression, then he & Jimmy Herring took the solos to unexplored heights. And, Joan Osborn was a BIG improvement over Donna Jean Godchaux. Looking forward to hearing the CD releases from the "Farewell" shows. (still wanting to get the final Allman Bros show, too...heard that was "amazing")

Madonna's Rebel Heart has finally made it into the repeat cycle on my stereo. I really like this album - but don't care for the 19 song length. I'd have preferred she split this into two albums as she once considered, since there are clearly dueling personas on this record - the tender, ballad and fun loving side of Madonna when she's at her very best, and then the raunchy profane side which I'm really weary of.
Like Say You Will, it needs to be pared into two different listening experiences. Also, Jessie Baylin's Dark Place is great and I've been playing that one a lot. So atmospheric - I wonder what Stevie might sound like if she did an album with Richard Swift? Otherwise, I've been listening to Stevie a bit lately, and Siouxsie, and Depeche Mode, and the other artists I usually return to when there's nothing new or interesting musically going on. 2015 is pretty disappointing for new releases, so far.

I know it sounds boring to most of you.I'm listening to a classic country internet radio stream which plays the likes of Johnny Cash and the Carter family,Dolly Parton and other greats from the 1940's up to the early 1990's.
