Default Favourite song from OOTC?

I've started delving into Lindsey's solo work in the last few weeks, beginning with the purchase of Law and Order, Go Insane, and OOTC.

OOTC has certainly been the one to catch my ear so far, and in listening to it I've already started to identify a few definite favourites. I get the impression that this is one of the most loved Lindsey albums (and I can certainly see why), so I'd love to hear what other people's favourite songs from it are.

I've gone with a poll just to push the indecisive amongst us to make a choice for once, but if there are others like me, I know you'll need a qualifying post or two to mention all the close 2nds, 3rds and 4ths. So qualify away! Instrumentals/intros have been omitted, but feel free to tell me that you think that was a criminal decision if I've gone and excised one of your faves.

Obviously I was limited to 10 choices, so my apologies to Don't Look Down, Wrong and Surrender the Rain for grouping them together, but they should know they were not unfairly targeted -- they just weren't one of the first 9 to come up on shuffle in iTunes

Well I'm personally appalled by your iPod in one sense, as I would've tentatively said "Don't Look Down", as that was the song that showed me Lindsey didn't lose his creative edge since leaving FM (although any first track for OOTC would've most likely done the exact same thing). However, in another sense, I'd vote for the three anyway, because picking a favourite is nigh-impossible (especially because, shamefully, I don't know them all back-to-front yet)!

My favorite has always been 'Wrong', even though I've heard some people say they didn't care much for it. Out of the Cradle is an album that I have steadily kept listening to over the years. It came out the summer I graduated from high school. I started college that fall and did a lot of my work listening to that album! OOTC deserves a lot more credit than it has received. We Lindsey fans know it's excellent, but the world at large has never heard it and they should!

Countdown! Followed closely by Soul Drifter. I seem to like his safer choices more than his experimental, I guess. Countdown is my happy place song.

Ok that was so hard my head hurt. I'd have to go with Countdown. Oh it's such a strong album though. I also like Street of dreams. Surrender the rain, and Soul Drifter.(Which sounds oddly like Family Man) Oh this was hard.

You're not kidding. This is really hard! Such a great album, and I love all the songs for different reasons ...but I finally narrowed it down to "Doing What I Can" and "Street of Dreams". DWIC is the one that pops into my head the most ( and stays there ) - but I had to vote for SOD 'cause it's just so beautiful, and personal for Lindsey. It's just always been the one that stands out for me.

Countdown is pure pleasure.

I think Out Of The Cradle is one cohesive piece of work (like the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds or the Beatles' Sgt Pepper), so I've never really taken the individual tracks into consideration.

It's kind of an "all or nothing" proposition.

Well I picked Street Of Dreams cause I think its also a very emotional song....he does it beautiful live...or he did on that tour....I also love Countdown too & Wrong.....I really do think its his best solo LP....though I am still missing a couple of the new releases of his....the live set....& something else....but OOTC will always be my favorite of his.....its hard to find any full LP were you don't mind putting it on & listening to the full cd....so its nice.....

the only song I "dislike" (if that can be said) is Say We'll Meet Again. The rest of the record is spot on.

Pretty much the same here. I have to admit it's a perfect album closer, tho. Maybe one of the reasons I dislike it is I'm never ready for the album to be over!

I picked You Do or You Don’t. But I easily could have picked five or six others. I’ve always been a fan of All My Sorrows. Curious about its origins, which are not clearly credited on the album. Google says it was originally a Shadows song…

You Do Or You Don't is my perennial favorite from OOTC as well.

I thought Lindsey did All My Sorrows as a cover/interpretation of All My Sorrows by the Kingston Trio, who were his favorite band early on I believe. Seems like it's a traditional song, so the Kingston Trio version is in turn an interpretation of a folk song. Lindsey's version knocks them all out of the park.

My two absolute favourites from this CD are "Countdown" and "Soul Drifter". Just absolutely love them both!! That album came out at a time in my life where I really needed the message of both of those songs. It helped bring me out and keep me out of a dark place. I used to just blast this CD in my car stereo while I drove around. Probably really annoyed my neighbors!!!

I'd say "Don't Look Down", "You Do Or You Don't", "Turn It On" and "Doing What I Can" would come next in order of preference.

Overall, really love that CD.
