Default The Chronicles of Narnia

I just got back from seeing this movie and it really was a good movie. Great? No, but good. I think the camera work and the scenery was fantastic. Some of the acting was a little overdone. I had never really seen or noticed the whole "christian" themes running through the story, but in this movie it was very apparent, almost too apparent. All in all, it was very interesting and Tilda (the white witch) was awesome.

AND, the actor that played the role of Peter, the oldest brother, looks like a young Brad Pitt. I know that's probably illegal, but he is hawt.

I read these books in High School, which was over 25 years ago. I dont remember a thing about the plot. I only remember I enjoyed them. They were contemporary with Tolkien and I was so totally engrossed in the whole fantasy genre that I dont think I ever recovered!

Have you read the Summer Tree Trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay?
its a MUST......
also the Avalon books by Marion Bradley Zimmer...
and even the Diana Gabaldon books, Butterfly in Amber, Outlander, etc...

I definitely will go to see it, C.S Lewis is an awesome writer, it's one of the few contemporary Christian authors I enjoy reading even if I prefer A Grief Observed (a masterpiece, IMO) to Narnia. By the way I can't wait to see Tilda Swinton in the role, she's such a gifted actress.

I wish Tilda had more scenes in the movie, but the last scene she's in is great.

Tilda Swinton rocks my world. She's made a good number of movies that have had immeasurable effects on me, most notably Derek Jarman's "Blue," "The War Zone," and "Orlando." A real treasure, she is.

I think I'll go see it after the crowds subside ,maybe at a late show on a weekday since sharing a theatre with alot of kids does not appeal to me.I agree it is probably a good but not great film.Peter Jackson kind of set the bar for this genre and I don't think this one matches up with LOTR.On the other hand from what I am seeing and hearing about King Kong it sounds the equal of these films. Can this man do no wrong? (The Frighteners notwithstanding).

I'll go see it when it's out here. Read the books probably twenty years ago, so I don't remember much about it either No spoilers please!

(and another fantasy greatest: Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea trilogy)

Oh, I went through a phase of reading nothing _but_ Narnia books. Admittedly, it wasn't my longest phase, because I ran out of books and I did reread them a lot, but that got old... Anyway, I can't wait to see the film, but living in Carlow with our tiny, useless conema is not a good way to stay current with the movie world...

And I love the His Dark Materials Trilogy, by Philip Pullman. It's like anti-Narnia.

I saw it Friday. I liked it for sure, I'd give it about a 6.5 out of 10

I don't go to the movies much because rude people always spoil it for me , but I was going to go to this one. After reading this though and hearing from others that it isn't that great, forget it!
Thanks for the heads up!

No, I personally would reccomend that you do go. I really did like it, just not the best movie I've ever seen.

Is The Amber Sypglass in that series? I remember really liking that book.

I recently (ok, like two years ago) re-read the Narnia books. They are atrocious. I can't believe I ever liked them.
